I don't know about nearly equal quality. Many of the popular Mobile games are akin to flash games that we've all played a decade ago. Fruit Ninja, Cut the Rope, Angry Birds, etc. Even the more impressive titles such as Dead Space and Infinity Blade fall far short of what we've seen on the PSP, or even the 3DS's so-so launch lineup.
Another thing I found interesting:
Final Fantasy III, which was an enhanced port of the DS version, was one of the best "real" games released on iOS and was heavily criticized for its $16 price tag. That's still $4 cheaper than the DS version retails for.
People expect full, console-quality games at an Angry Birds price.
Mobile has a long ways to go before it can match dedicated handhelds IMO, and I don't think that'll happen with a touchscreen only interface.
