I know you said you didn't like the Deck Legend but it is absolutely your best option as far as getting a product that isn't "dodgy" as you put it but still has mech switches and back lighting.

Indeed. I keep getting urges to buy the xarmor with the cherry blues then take it apart and replace with browns. But then that's possibly going to cost huge amounts, cause damage soldering and generally not be desirable just because I can't get the uk cherry brown version. :S

Is it the lack of Special function keys that Turns you off?

It needs a home

Yeah I know what you mean. The deck just seems so stark for the price. Plus I've read some negative reviews given the price performance ratio. But agreed the deck legend does seem the last ditch effort. But i'm still holding out there may be another option or options available. Just wish I could get that xarmor in uk format with cherry browns. I can't even find online if they even made that model, the xarmor website seems to be offline. Did they go bust?

I believe the OCN brass said that there would be some OCN branded Ducky's coming out with back lighting so you could hold out for that, but I have a feeling they are also going to seem stark to you. Most mech keyboards from non gaming companies seem to fit the bill of stark as far as not catering to the gaming community with macro keys and media keys and all that

I personally have the OCN Ducky with the browns, it only has 4 macro keys (Calculator, PC Home, E-Mail, and Browser Home Page) but I don't find myself missing the old macro keys I had. Instead, I picked up a Razer Naga mouse for all my macro and media key needs

I don't thing your going to find a back-lite mechanical that also has black/brown switches.

Personally I love my blues and find them great for gaming, but if you want browns/blacks I would recommend getting a Das Silent or a 7G (6gv2 if you wana cheap out).

EDIT: I use a black widow normal version and its great for SC2 and Bad company 2.

EDIT 2: Just as I was about to close the window I saw this pic

. The Xarmor actually uses brown switches. I didn't even know, but it would seam this is what your looking for.

Yep indeed it does. But annoyingly its the US not UK layout. If I could find this keyboard in UK id buy it in an instant. I do alot of programming and i really need the "\\" key to be where i'm used to it bottom left.

Come to think of it I think the Deck Legend is US layout only too

I know you asked for backlight and mechanical and uk layout and good quality and media keys.

But its hard to find all of this on the same keyboard. If you can live without backlight you could go with Filco. It has brown/black/blue switches and keyboard is really well made (according to reviews and some users here on forum). It also comes with UK layout

I asked the same thing: backlight and a decent layout:

No way, you can't get ISO layout + mechanical + backlight at the same time, just two of them.

I tried mechanical + UK layout (black widow) and I don't liked it.

So i decided to give a try to the Xarmor U9BL-S. It should be already in Europe, so i hope to have it for Monday, it meets almost all my needs other than the ISO layout: is reasonably priced, looks nice, has the usb hub, and the volume keys (tough in second function) and the brown switches.
