Im looking to get a Sata 3 add on card for my desktop to run a new SSD. I was hoping to find a card to add internal sata3 connectors. Thanks for any help in advance

very few drives (including ssd) can pass the sata2 speeds

controllers with pci or e-1x will not be fast enough for more than 1 sata3 drive

So as long as I am using one sata3 drive I should be fine?

it will work with more than one drive, just when you add more they will slow down some

but most sata 3 drives arent fast enough to fill the controllers bandwidth anyway

sata 2 = 3g/s
sata 3 = 6g/s

pcie x1 = 2.5g/s
pcie x4 = 10g/s
pcie x8 = 20g/s
pcie x16 = 40g/s

I'm pretty sure that 3rd gen SSDs like the vertex3 coming out roundabout now will need sata3 to perform at their best.

thatll work, if your board only has a free pci-e x1 slot

presonally, id run it on a sata2 controller, til some good sata3 pci-e x4 cards come out

Native controllers provide better random performance.... Generally, you are better off running with the onboard controller rather than a 3rd party controller even at the cost of sequential performance.
Once again...

from the theroretical speeds
-%15 for sata2
-%58 for sata3

for the price of a good sata3 controller setup, you could get a new board with sata3/usb3 ect.. and sell your current board
