[UK] Cheap but decent speakers?

Thread Starter
I've got about £20 to spend on some new speakers. My current speakers are built into my Proview MA782KC monitor. Unfortunately, at the end of May, this is being replaced. So I'm in need of new speakers, for gaming and music purposes. They don't have to be perfect, as I'm only ever going to have on board sound.

Size is of great concern, as my desk is small. I don't really have room for a subwoofer anywhere apart from on the floor, and that's only a last resort.

Better than the built in speakers is essential, and looks are fairly important.

I'll buy new anywhere in the UK (or used, just in this country)

Not going to find anything really "decent" at that price point. Save up a little more coin and get a solid budget headphone? A lot easier to get high end detail with headphones than speakers on the low end.

As much as I'd love a new pair of headphones (I have an old pair of Philips ones that are meant to be good, and I also have my Skullcandys which are crap but comfy), I'd rather have speakers.

My context of the word "decent" is better than the integrated monitor ones, and equal (if not better) quality than the Altec Lansing ones built into my laptop.

$20 really?=/ You aren't going to get close to any decent speakers new unless you find some huge sale.

Edit; I guess you can get something like this

At this point, anything that sounds better than a 7 year old monitor's integrated sound would suffice.

Can't really make a recommendation then. Pick something from Logitech, Altec Lansing etc in your price range that will fit your desk?

I could probably squeeze a box that size in soewhere. It would have to be on the floor, though, that's my concern. It's downward firing, and this room is above the lounge.

However, having the wired remote, it's not impossible to do that. And the headphone port (seeing as the one on my Z7 is crap) does come in handy as well. Combine that with small speakers...

I think that's the one.

it does actuall have a bass controll on the bass box so u can controll it so just turn it down and u wont get too much firing into the floor
