If I am going to build a nanban trading port, and want to stay Buddhist, try to upgrade the castle to support the additional slot for a Buddhist temple and as you can, upgrade it through the chain. If you time it early enough you should have at least one monk in the early game that has leveled some. I try to path that early monk to be the "town inspiring" monk, ie... he goes behind the troops and reduces the kiri-shaitan influences. Well timed you should finish the castle, start the port (which is the same tech level as the military port, just replaces it), and have the monastery all going at the same time to finish on the same turn.

The monk + temple/monastery complexes will keep the influence down to nothing so you don't end up going kiri-shaitan without wanting too. Same goes for tearing up a church, you wanna be sure you have the money and monks to immediately replace it with Buddhism and keep repression and food high. Kiri-shaitan rebellions suck.

I like building down in the Kyushu region cause the Ito and Shogo tend to go Christian anyways... if you want to stay on good terms don't choose dilemma options that repress the faith actively, and try to marry in if possible. If not, be prepared to fight for the whole island. I may play a game sometime and go Kiri-shaitan and guns the whole way...

Religious differences are a constant drag on relations, so eventually if they don't become a vassal, you will more than likely have to fight... so like anything, if the city = investment, your going to be stuck garrisoning it pretty heavily.

If anyone wants to get a mutli campaign on tonight let me know. Is it just two people per campaign or can it be more than that?

I'm really enjoying this game, but I'm still getting my approach down. Figured it couldn't hurt to ask a few questions...

1. Is it worth upgrading the towns in each province you take over? Its expensive, but I've been doing it for the added repression and defense. Would I be better off picking just a few key provinces to do it with it?

2. I have a tendency to be aggressive right from the start, which usually carries over until I over-extend myself and run into a region which has built up huge armies. Is there any ideal approach? Take over a few regions then stay peaceful for awhile to build everything, then get aggressive again?

3. In terms of the actual battles, any tips on how best to approach things when facing a much bigger foe? I have tried to use my archers to maximum effect but usually end up getting them slaughtered before they can do much damage.

Thanks for any tips!

1) It is not good to upgrade castles unless you still have excess food. I still try not to even upgrade unless I think it will be worth it in the long run.

2) Just stay aggressive until your bar for fame with the shogun is almost maxed. If you max that you will have other factions declare war on you.

If you find yourself in a region that has a stronger force then you either lay a ambush for them or try to use agents more.

3) Don't have an army full of archers, get more unit composition and just have your archers in front of your army until the enemy is almost at you and then send your melee troops in.

Cavalry also helps a lot if you have access to it.

I've got a tier 2 clan, so I'd prefer not to lose out on that, if possible...
anybody playing Shogun with surround 3d? I've found the clan map sometimes doesn't render with three screens enabled, but always works on one in 3d...
jjonestemp on steam, too, if anyone wants to play some clan battles or mp campaign (or even just farm up some veteran units... that's why you keep getting skunked on mp- scummy kids with high level great guards! Unlock the yari hero to pin them down :-) )
