i7 2600k is HOT!

Thread Starter
Just finished my new/first build. Idle temps are between 25-30c...run prime 95 and in a minute or 2 it gets to 80c and i stop the test. Heats up almost instantly and when i shut off prime 95 it cools down almost instantly. Something must be wrong for it to heat up that fast...stock cooler...

If you haven't overclocked yet, as stated above you need to reseat your heatsink and make sure you properly apply the TIM.

When you remove the heatsink remove the old compound with isopropyl alcohol. After than, use a grain of uncooked rice as the TIM method in the middle of the CPU. After that, correctly place the heatsink over the CPU and have it spread the TIM itself when it's fully seated.

Are you currently running at stock speed? The stock cooler that came with the retail is smaller than the one that came with the first i7 generations (900 series)

I suggest get a decent cooler. CM Hyper 212+ I've heard got really excellent reviews in price and performance.

Doesn't matter, he shouldn't be reaching anywhere near 80C with the stock cooler with no overclocking done.

The stock Intel cooler is terrible. Like really, really bad.

Although those temps do seem a little off, even by stock cooler standards. Maybe one of your push pins is loose?
those temps are spot on considering you are running the stock cooler.

Wow, so many responses. Thanks

Not overclocked yet, Stock cooler until Friday (rasa 750 kit comes). Only thing i can think of is maybe a little bit too much thermal paste. Ill take it off, clean, and reapply and see if it helps
