Power supply compatibility

Thread Starter
I'm trying to salvage an HP Pavilion thats about 2 years old. I need to get a better power supply for the video card I want. Right now the power supply is a Delta Electronics inc. max at 350w.

Can I buy any power source? Or do I have to stick with a HP version?

Any psu should work but maybe we could help out and suggest one. It's possible the PSU you have could actually do the job depending on what model it is and what video card you are purchasing. Also take physical size into consideration, don't want to buy a psu that is too big for your case.

I'm building this for gaming only so I need a really nice graphics card, but on the other hand I dont have top coin to spend. A friend said that I can build a comp around the graphics card, but im trying to salvage old parts from this HP Pavilion. I need a case, graphics card, and power supply to support the card, 350w isnt going to cut it I think. Since I have the motherboard should I start from there and find a case thats compatible for it?

Well doesn't really seem we have specifics going then, feel free to take matters into your own hands. If it's any help my whole system hits around 230w when benchmarking my cpu and gpu.

And the case is a good place to start. Assumably your mobo is going to be ATX standard so pretty much any mid/full size case will work.
