So, based off the past intel cycle we have just seen for the x58 chipset, how long do you think the x79 turnover should be? 3 years?

It won't last 3 years, that's nearly impossible thanks to Intels release schedule. LGA1366 should have lasted only two years, but due to Intel releasing their enthusiast platform before the mainstream one LGA1366 got an extra year of market availability. This time the enthusiast socket gets released second, so the longest it will be the defacto high performance CPU can be two years.

Since this is speculative, we could see Intel do the opposite of what they did with nehalem and make the mainstream socket last 3 years and push a newer enthusiast platform the next year (Q4 2012 or Q1 2013). But that's even less likely to happen than a 3 year reign of LGA2011.
