Project Lap: 1055T *Pictures*

Thread Starter
Iv'e been thinking about lapping my 1055T for quite a while now, so I went ahead with it anyway.

Yesterday night I made an attempt to make my first lap with a CPU for the first time. I used sand paper which wasen't upto sanding quality for my CPU, but I used it anyway.

Got into a few dilema's where I have tested the CPU after lapping and my tempature's were in the 55C's

Got it back at this morning and sanded that IHS back down again. Tested my 1055T once again and now I got 43C as my load tempature. Still wasen't good enough.

So I made one last attempt brutaly sand my CPU down which I did and spent a long 2 hour scrub on my CPU.

The result was my load tempature was now between 37-40C depending on how warm it is in my house.

Before lapping (Load temp's were around 45C) After Lappting (Load temp's now around 37-40C) After getting my finger's batterd, I'm chuffed with the result.

Picture's are below [There is another photo but it's on my other phone which has the completed shined CPU]

Shouldn't it be shinner and have less scratches?

I'm not a lapping expert but I think it still needs some lovin' by some 1000, 1500, and 2000 grit sand paper.

Get some wet and dry and then some autosol on that chip!

Good effort on the work you have done but wrong choice of lapping paper.

I normally go up to 2000 grit sand paper when I lapped. In the picture you can see my HSF lapped and a reflection of my X-fi box off of the lapped processor. If your temps dropped, then it should be fine. I just like mirror image. To make sure it's truly flat lay a flat razor on it.

Well, seeing as Iv'e now 100% voided my CPU's warranty, I don't give a frack what I do with my CPU now and might just attempt some daredevil overclock's.

Only thing that bothers me is that my 790FX chipset may some how limit me in some daredevil overclocking

It's a gigabyte board. Not a MSI
