What would you do if your cpu fails and takes your mobo (and possibly other hardware) with it?
As I have said, I have sanded down the CPU even more than the last picture you see on the first post. (The result was that it looks more shiny, not mirror shiney, but it just abouts shine and after a good clean, the result was even better. I forgot to take a picture of it sadly.

And about the damage, dont't worry, if it happens, it happens, it will all be caught on the video I will be making to show you the overclock that I will be attempting to do tommorow and will get a video link up sometime tommorow, if not than please subscribe to me on my YouTube account.

And the damage that I may cause tommorow doesn't bother me because I will be upgradeing on the 2nd of May

I so want to lap my 1090t when i get my EK block for my CHIV, since i would have to take it out anyways.

Reading and watching videos on how to do it for the past week, and I figure it's best to work on a mirror (nice and flat) then start at 600 and work your way up to 2000, maybe a little brasso polish to get the surface as perfect as can be. Sure it takes a lot of work but you don't have to do it in 1 sitting...defiantly a Saturday with beer project. The key to doing it that I noticed is very little pressure and let the wet sand paper do its work...after all it is a CPU not a car.

Very interested in seeing your full results.

I bought sand paper from advanced auto. I started with 800 and worked my way up to 2000. Water sanding the CPU 5 times back and forth, rotating and doing the same thing 5 times. Don't use any pressure, use the weight of the CPU/ cooler. I never used anything to polish, the 2000 grit will give you a mirror finish. look at my picture on the first page for results.

Good luck with lapping atom,

bozo that looks amazing, what were the temp changes when you did that?

What kind of liquid did you use? I've seen people use water, water/dish soap, water/isopropyl alcohol, light oil...etc.

I just used water. After laping the CPU, and HSF I have seen 12 degree celcius drop full load. Yeah I had fun playing with the reflection of my xfi box off the CPU through the HSF. That was an old Q6700 @ 3.75 with tuniq tower.
