overclock + 16 GB RAM in 4 slots = FAIL :(

Thread Starter
I know that many people already talked about the fact that it's difficult to o/c when the 4 slots are occupied

i received the 2*4gb gskill today to complete the 8gb already installed.

Installation ok, boot to win7 ok, 60gb data transfer=> BSOD

reboot, intel burn test = fail

back to the old 4ghz configuration = fail

so i made a choice, to keep the phenom II overclocked and remove the extra 8gb, because 16gb and running at 3.3ghz = NO

$96 wasted, i'll try to remember the people's warning the next time....

Have you tried to up the chipset voltages I hear this can help. I know my board hates 4 stick no matter what speed/settings I use.

No problems here. Just adjust the multiplier and the CPU voltage.

Rick Arter is pretty close except he fails to realise that the memory controller on AMD platforms has been on the CPU for over 9 years, so chipset voltage wouldn't be the right thing to raise. My recommendation would be to raise the CPU-NB voltage (IMC voltage); a few notches should solve it.
I was also successful at getting a 1090T and a 1100T to have 8 hour 90% of memory blend test stable with 16 GB of RAM that was rated at 2000 MHz, CPU was at 4.125 GHz and kept my CPU NB frequency at 3000 MHz.

Its very achievable if you have patience.

Firstly, run the memory through MemTest86+ to ensure you didn't buy bad memory chips.

Then make sure CPU is stable with vCore and decent temperatures.

Then adjust CPU-NB voltage up to around 1.40v range. Some CPU/IMCs require less voltage ~ around 1.36v. I required more to about 1.425v. I also had LLC enabled for my CPU-NB so under stress the voltage increased to about 1.475v, but I had adequate cooling and did not fret too much.

If all that fails, i.e. same level of instability (BSOD within seconds despite large voltage increments) then try adjusting vDimm voltage. I found it requiring and extra 80 mV to get mine going, from 1.65v to 1.73v to operate @ spec, but with a huge difference of CPU-NB frequency.

Best bet is to make sure its stable at regular speeds first though.

Key thing is testing and patience. Took me over a week to get it right with the advertised memory timings.

I know with my g.skill dimms, if I use all 4 dimms I have to run them at 1.9v to be stable - and that voltage was given to me directly from g.skill support

Hi all, sorry for the delay and thanks for all your answers

I FINALLY stabilized my pc w/ 16gb @ 4017Mhz.

i put the memory clock to 1333Mhz w/ 8-8-8-24T and all work perfect !

intel burn test ok and memtest passed too

so it's not a fail

Get those latencies down to CL7 @ 1333 or you wouldn't be getting the performance you paid for, you need CL7 at 1333Mhz to equal 1600Mhz CL9 performance

Better yet bring it back up to 1600Mhz and work on the CPU-NB voltage. A few more notches up should do it.

oh cool thanks for the tip ! i'll set that

Hmm i prefer to let it at 1333 since at 1600mhz the pc isn't stable, and i have already a cpu-nb @ 1.3V, i don't want to push it farther.

On the G.Skill forums they recommend 1333 w/ tight latencies and at @1.6 for the ram (i'm at 1.55V).

Should run at 1600Mhz easily though on the x6... (see sig)
