Help build for graphics apps and multitasking

Thread Starter
Hi I'm doing a build for a friend that will be running some of these programs for work. Where would be a good place to start? Any suggestions or comments?

Programs Used: AutoCad 2D & some 3D, Google Sketchup, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, MS Office

Other things to note:
multitasking
dual monitor
no budget but around $800 would be good
will only be mildly overclocked

Some stuff I was randomly looking at:
CASE: Antec 300 ($30 no tax)
CPU: Intel i5 2500k ($215 or i7 2600 $260~280)
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTS 450 Superclocked 1024MB (01G-P3-1452-TR) nVidia GeForce GTS 450 Chipset (882Mhz) 1024MB (3800Mhz) GDDR5 ($145-$20MIR)
RAM: G.SKILL PK Series DDR3 1333MHz 3x2GB) Triple Channel Kit CL77718 v1.5 ($85+tax)
PSU: looking to pick up locally 500~600W ($~40)
MOBO: Asus P8P67 LE (Rev. 3.0) ($140+tax)
HDD: WD Caviar Blue 500GB SATA3 6GB/s 7200RPM 16MB OEM ($40+tax)
DVD: ($20)
keyboard ($5)
mouse ($5)
monitor x 2 ($400)

I'm used to making budget builds, so any help would be appreciated guys. Thanks.

EDIT: probably going with i7 2600k and a p67 mobo, with other parts bought locally w no tax to save $.

Find a used i7 9XX and used X58 board, or go for a 2600K and P67 board. Unless you're gaming, you don't need anything more than a GTS 450 or GTX 460 for videocard, but heavy AutoCad 3D work usually needs a Quadro/FirePro card to be efficient, doesn't it?

Thanks for your reply.

Regarding buying used parts, I don't have the time so I'll have to buy them new.

And for 3D, I asked my friend, and it won't be used as much as other programs which means any video card will do. Perhaps I should spend more on the CPU and go easy on the GPU.

Any other suggestions or comments?

Will 64GB SSD be enough? Or will I need to get a HDD for storage?

You probably won't be able to squeeze a SSD in for around $800. Here's an i7 build I put together:

As you can see, I'm already at the $1000 mark, and this is without a monitor, keyboard or mouse, let alone an SSD, which is nice to have.

You could go to a i5 2500K build or AMD 1055T to save some money, but for a workstation performance would suffer. Games would be fine, but the programs you listed really do make use of the extra threads on an i7 and the triple-channel RAM.

I would talk to your friend and ask him what is more important- productivity or the extra $500 he should need to spend.

What other PSUs can you suggest? There are no Rosewills that I can pickup locally.

I am considering a HDD, but again, I hate the fact they don't sell Samsung Spinpoints at my local store.

And I will crunch numbers again after work with the i7. Thanks.

Okay some parts and prices updated above.

Really need to find a GPU but all I found was NVidia Quadro FX580 for 40 bucks, but that's 32-bit, so no good. Gotta spend more time looking or will have to increase budget

And thanks for the link as well. I'm waiting for some replies for the PSUs.
