ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2

If I bought this cooler, would I just be able to pop it in and have it work? No thermal paste to apply or anything? And would it be a very good improvement over my stock 2500K cooler? (100C at load )

I had the freezer 7 on my old AM3 system to cool my Phenom X3 720 @ 3.2 ghz. It was the worst cooler I have ever owned in my entire life.

It struggled to keep it under 45c idle with AS5 as the TIM with a GOOD method.

ARRGH I HATED IT SO MUCH!

The cooler comes with thermal paste already applied on the bottom of the CPU cooler. I'd try cleaning off the thermal paste on your stock heatsink and CPU with isopropyl alcohol, and reapplying thermal paste. You'll have to remove the thermal paste either way.

Also, I recommend a better cooler than the freezer 7. I think the mugen 2 would be a better choice: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...&Tpk=scmg-2100

Well, I kinda' want something that doesn't require me to take my 2-day old rig all the way apart...

Why would you put a $30 cooler on a 2500k anyways, to save yourself 15 minutes?

It's not that bad. This cooler is super quiet, and very efficient (from my experience). For a budget cooler - it's awesome.

It's not meant to cool anything efficiently over a dual core, thus my bad cooling experience. So if he would put it on his 2500k, he'd be in for a treat

it will cool it better than stock. its not a bad cooler at all. i have the rev1 on my e6750@3.7ghz 65c load. it does come with thermal paste that will serve its purpose.
