but yea, id like a challenge.. something from scratch would be nice
What is there to discuss then? Buy a bunch of wood of your choice (hardwood if you're rich), assemble however you want. This way you can stick as many fans as you want in there and actually have good airflow .

I have something in mind I'd want to do, but I won't give away my secret plans for my next case .

Here's some ideas. If you're going to build it, might as well make a removable motherboard tray. Then hide the power supply and whatever else you don't want to look at in a separate part of the case. Make a nice roomy space behind the mobo tray so you don't have to kill yourself trying to get everything to fit, plus you'll get good cable management.

Make sure to give it a nice finish too. A light stain couldn't hurt, plus plenty of clear coats/varnish. If you like the hardwood look but don't want to spend that much, maybe veneer MDF although it may be a pain to do (I've never done it).

Just thought of something. You could use two different types of wood to give it a two-tone effect . Make the inside out of cherry and outside out of maple or something. Sides out of maple, top front and back out of walnut...

But seriously, hardwood is expensive. Baltic Birch is reasonable and looks good. Plus you get a whole sheet that is easier to work with. Just check before you use it, I vaguely remember reading when you finish/stain it it can come out uneven.

Whatever you decide, make sure to link the worklog here, or if you don't make one, post pics of the result .
