[Solved] Extreme Budget HTPC / Light Gaming Build

Thread Starter
I have some spare parts lying around and after seeing the $25 off for new Newegg customers, I thought this might be a good time to put together a budget build for my parents. Primary use will be for watching movies with some light gaming (LoL / SC2 on medium settings is fine).

Components I already have:
CASE: AZZA Orion Case: http://www.xoxide.com/azza-orion-201...-red-case.html - Not exact the best build but it's roomy
PSU: CyberPowerPC 600W PSU - Don't trust it whatsoever, will get a new one if cheap enough
RAM: 2x2GB Kingston 800 DDR2 RAM - May need DDR3 RAM depending on what MOBO I choose
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136073
CPU: AMD Athlon II x2 255 (3.1 ghz): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-896-_-Product

I'm going to definitely need a new motherboard & GPU. Would like to get a new PSU to replace the one I have listed above. May need new RAM sticks if the new MOBO uses DDR3. I already have multiple optical drives lying around so that won't be needed. Looking to spend either $100 or $200 to get the $25/50 off with a new account.

I was thinking of using a build that utilized this combo:
MOBO + GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.608437
Would need a set of DDR3 RAM and a cheap PSU though.

Budget: Not exactly defined but under $150 (w/ the $25 off $100 new Newegg customer promo x2). The lower the cost, the better.

Check out http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820144455

I've used this ram in and mom/dad web browsing rig last week, using 2x2gb set up. Running great. I don't know about the O'C ability of these sticks though...overclocking ram is something I have yet to venture into.

Do you know the power requirements for that card iin your combo deal? I'm working on a build for my brother at this exact moment.

I also used http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-003-_-Product as the PSU for that rig, since its only gonna be using the onboard 4250 graphics for web browsing.

That RAM looks decent. I'm actually using GeIL RAM right now in my sig rig and I'm quite pleased with it. I might wait a bit before getting the RAM as I haven't seen any RAM deals the past 2 days. If I'm lucky, I might be able to nab a 2x2GB RAM with decent timings for around $30.

Not sure how much power the card will need but some reviewers on Newegg have it running on just 250W PSU. I see a lot of reviewers that used the card as a DELL Slim upgrade with a generic 250W PSU without any problems. My only concern for it is that it is older technology (No DirectX 11) but for a HTPC build with some light gaming mixed in, it should suffice.

Thinking about getting this PSU for $20 AMIR and promo code: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371023

Antec 430W Continuous PSU will be enough for this build.

EDIT: Forgot that I can't stack promo codes. May still get this for $30 unless someone can suggest a better PSU at that price range.

Xigmatek 500w psu $25 after mir.

Kingston Hyper blu 1600 2x2 kit $30 after promo and rebate.

Combine these with your parts you already have and the mobo/video card combo you listed and you are golden. $120 after rebates and before the $25 off.
It's so little!

Just placed my orders (had to separate them into 2)

Got the GPU + MOBO combo with a Scythe Mugen-2 Rev B (going to use it to OC my sig rig) w/ the $25 promo. Came out to $95 ($80 AMIR).
Second order was the Kingston Hyper Blu 1600 4GB RAM (will use this on my sig rig and switch the GeIL 1333 RAM onto the HTPC) and Antec 430W Continuous PSU. Came out to $80 ($50 AMIR).

Now I got myself:
-A Biostar motherboard
-Sapphire 4650 GPU
-4GB 1600 RAM
-Antec 430W PSU
w/
-AZZA case
-WD 500GB HD
-Athlon II x2 @ 3.1ghz
plus a Scythe Mugen-2 CPU cooler for my sig rig.

So the grand total is $130 AMIR. Thanks to all that helped!
