yea... but story 1st
k, no i'm not COMPLETELY nu 2 ubuntu (haven't tried ne other). used it b4 when my comp has crashed or what not. i liked it, wont lie, but i couldn't get my sub to get recognized last time or sumthing like that.. see but thats where i gave up. and installed xp again.
this time, i noticed i just kinda stopped gaming and idk, i dont think win is for me ne moar. but i like the set up i have (see screenshot below) and another time i was having issues w/ my MX518 mouse, i like the buttons but i couldn't use them w/ ubuntu..

so im at... do you guys have any posts/forums/sites etc that could help me get ready for ubuntu (or ne other distro). i wanna do my hw this time b4 i install. i would try dual boot again, but i have REAL bad luck last time..

thnx

Pretty much a linux noob too, but lifehacker's guide, while old, is helpful for dual booting. Linux mint is more user friendly than ubuntu and comes with a whole bunch of drivers installed by default which is good. Eh, not the most helpful but it's a start.

i guess i should've read the sticky section 1st.. sry, ok, now question 2:
i think imma go w/ kubuntu, just cause the survey said so and idk why else, i could run Wine and be happy w/ my gaming, the games were listed under the supported apps. question now is, 32 or 64bit? and why or why not? thnx

I'll be the first to tell you not to rely on WINE. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't. It's nice when you DO get something working, but when that happens, generally an update will break it again [or so I'm told. I've never gotten WINE to work].

If your CPU supports it, go x86_64, even if you don't have more than 4GB ram. All linux applications run x86_64 natively, the only bump you might experience is flashplayer.

Kubuntu is an interesting choice - if you don't like it, don't dismiss Linux, just dismiss KDE (and head for Ubuntu standard).

I'd second Mint though (or Mint KDE Community edition, in your case), it's the most user-friendly distro by far.
I'd second x86_64 too, although I don't think Mint KDE comes in 64 bit....

If you're going to try kubuntu you might want to look at openSUSE instead/also. It's main desktop environment is kde too and usually is a slicker implementation of kde.

Yep, Mint is a user-friendly version of Ubuntu (it's a spin-off)
