just create ~/.asoundrc, it is for your profile only, ~ in linux is your home folder, just create it, note: in linux anything with a period in front of it is a "hidden" file/folder, you will need go to view->show hidden files to be able to see it after you have created it.

/etc/asound.conf is a global thing, you really don't need to edit or create that file if you are the only user on the computer, and plus you don't need to have root privileges to create and edit .asoundrc.

if you feel like creating the file from a command line, while in your ~ directory you can just

touch filename

and youll have a blank file to use however you please or you can skip that step and just make the new file with a text editor like nano such as

nano filename

and it will open up a text editor that save the file to filename when you are done if the file exists it will open up the file and allow you to edit it, if not it will give you a blank file to put text into... youd be surprised how many files in linux are just flat out plain text files
Kinda meh now...

Hopefully you confused two distros because no one would ever seriously suggest CentOS as a desktop distro. Plus it's far from lightweight. I wouldn't call any Red Hat distros lightweight.

Has the OP disabled onboard sound in BIOS? I can't remember if mine shows up in lspci, but I haven't run into this, and have my onboard disabled.

I don't
understand your
purpose
in bothering to mention this
at all. I also don't understand your
"formating".

And I think I've made my pointz

Linux isn't for you. Awesome. Stay with windows. But don't threadjack a help thread to tell us. Start your own so we can all call you names and stuff.

Thread Starter
thanks for all the help. i got all (afaik) of the audio to work, with the exception that every now and then youtube and/or hulu videos wont play audio, i just reboot and wala; not that big of an issue.. i ended up NOT using the arch linux method, it actually muted my sound (prob. didn't do it right) i think i either googled it or read up on the the sticky threads... either case, thanx for the help
