[TPU] NVIDIA readies Non-Ti GTX 560 - Page 3

Let's not forget that ATi/AMD also does this. I don't mind the rebrands, just trying to sell what they have already made. Besides the GTX 460 is such a mess. 768 MB 1 GB 2 GB SE SSC FTS SoC, SO MANY NAMES!?

Edit: If this is GF114 I see another GTX 570 scenario. The GTX 570 is the same as a GTX 480 in performance, just more efficient. I believe this GF114 will be comparable to a GTX 460, just better clocks for power consumption or something.

So basically, they take all their existing GTX 460 PCB's and slap a GF114 on them. I'm surprised people didn't suspect this (myself included) type or scheme from nvidia earlier. I knew there was a reason that GTX460 boards and GF114 chips were pin-to-pin compatible.
I think this is a proper move considering nVidia needed something to fill the large performance gap between the 550 Ti and the 560 Ti. Although I think this requires a price drop for the 550 considering that gap.

Some GTX 560 Ti already use the old 460 PCB, MSI did with the Twin Frozr II at launch.

Between the 550 and 560 Ti sit the GTX 460 cards (all 3 versions) but they are now EOL so I guess releasing this does make sense though why not just make this a GTX 550 Ti and make the current one a GTS ? :/

It would be less confusing I think.

I smell another GTX 460 S.E. episode coming up. Lot's of unsuspecting people picked up gtx 460 S.E. without realizing that in fact they were picking up a slower gtx 460. Yet they thought they had gotten a bargain - not only a cheaper gtx 460, but a S.E. (which they probably thought was similar to S.C.)

Apparently the "official" name is "Smart Edition".. As in "we're so smart we made you buy a slower card for the same amount of money hurr".

fermi and the 590 were bad cards. So far, nvidia has only had 2 good cards in the past 2 generations. The 570 and 460. eek.

This is why I just buy the high end crap now a days. I don't really want to, or spend the money really, its just my epeen gets confused as to whether the SC is less than the TI or the TI SC is more than the SC, or the GTX vs. the GTY.... having one of those cards would drive me nuts. I never know who the hell I am supposed to be faster than.

GTX 590 doesn't have any naming conventions yet thank god.
