99% Activity when Idle

Thread Starter
I know I've seen some posts about this issue scattered about, but I thought it deserved its own thread.

I keep seeing my activity as 99% when idling. It's not just a reporting error, since I have other problems that coincide with it. For instance, when returning from idle it takes my monitor about ten times as long to wake up when CCC (or AMD VISION Control Center wink.gif) reports the 99% activity.

I've seen this bug on 11.2 and 11.4 preview drivers, but I'm not sure how long it has been happening.

I HAVE to change my clocks in AMD Overdrive because the stock "overclock" on my PowerColor 5850 PCS+ is not stable. I have to set the clocks manually to 725 / 1000 per the vanilla 5850 settings. Maybe I should RMA the card; I don't know. But if non-standard clocks attribute to this bug, I'm SOL.

Please post the most current information about this error, and hopefully AMD will eventually fix the issue.

Had the exact same problem on my 5870 with drivers 11.1 and 11.2. I went back to 10.10 until I heard about 11.4 preview drivers. Havent had a single problem on 10.10 or 11.4 preview drivers. Its apparently a bug or something in the 11.1 and 11.2 drivers. Try a clean install, driver sweeper version of 11.4 and see what happens. If that dont work clean install 10.10 and then upgrade to 11.4.

I have had it occur on the 11.4 drivers.

I have stopped believing in Driver Sweeper; I just experienced the problem, however, after upgrading to 11.4 Mar23 from 11.2. A restart will fix the problem, but it's obviously not a genuine fix.

Does this issue relate at all to Firefox 4 HW acceleration? What about AMD Overdrive?

I believe I was running Firefox at the time. Now I have only Chrome. But maybe a clean install of 11.4 will work. I have since re installed Windows 7 and went with 11.4. Try a driver sweep install 10.10, then upgrade to 11.4.

I'll keep monitoring to see when/if it happens again. I'd rather not use Driver Sweeper, as it seems one more 3rd party solution that could screw something up. It's a personal decision I've come to.

Okay. I just seem to have come down with the 99% activity bug. The last thing I did was watch an .avi video in WMP. I think I'm going to downgrade but I'm not sure what to. Has anyone seen this problem in 11.1?

Last reported drivers that doesn't have this issue is 10.10E.
I did roll back to those drivers since any drivers from there would cause my that insane 99% GPU load at idle

Going to try 10.10e now. Thanks!

P.S.

AMD knows about this problem, right?
