Support dropped for I7 980x ES??

Recently i bought a new motherboard for a crossfire setup only to find out it would not post and beep. I put an RMA on the board and ordered a new one. The new board would not post either.
I now received word from the RMA of the first board, it posted with a I7 920 in it. they upgraded the bios and have now send it back.

The first board was a p6t SE with bios version 808, 980x support was added in 805 so it should work. when i test my 980x ES (Q4EG) on the board i used before the upgrade(Gigabyte UD3R rev 1.6) it posts correctly and boots into windows. so the cpu is not at fault.

It's seems to me that intel dropped support for the 980x es in the microcode.
Does anyone here encountered similar problems? did anyone fix it? or is the problem caused by something else?

Indeed it turns out intel dropped support for the Engineering Samples.

Both motherboards turn out to have version 13 of the 06C2 microcode while the board that did work (board now dead because of a short ) contains version 5. I found one review of the 980x ES which used the p6t. checking the bios that added 980x returns, you guessed it, version 5 of the 06C2 microcode.

Now with no board and spare cpu's around the quest is started to find a gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 motherboard.
