Install ia32-libs from apt-get. "sudo apt-get install ia32-libs" from terminal without quotes.

This will allow 32 bit applications to run in your environment and may alleviate issues depending on which programs you are trying to utilize (example, ventrilo server doesn't have a 64 bit compiled version, but you can easily run the 32 bit variant).

Im able to use Wine just fine able to play my mmorpg just fine along with CoD4(low fps but works fine) and i can play pokerstars too... i cant use Xfire(not crossfire or sli) it crashes about 30 seconds into it
I updated the "reccomended" Nvidia drivers from 260 to 270.29 so im wondering if there is something holding me backfor CoD4 avg fps is about 40 whereas windows i get 250+

did you try going single card to see if you get a performance increase? it could honestly just be wine being cranky with duel gpu's some people say sli works just as well under linux, some people say its a nightmare... it honestly might just be a problem with wine not knowing how to handle it
Kinda meh now...

LiLi Usb creator is my favorite, I suggest you try it. Very nice and convenient interface. Also after you finish your install it will come up with a proprietary driver option to install the nvidia drivers... if not click system>administration and click additional drivers... dont forget to goto system>preferences>appearance --and set it to extra after the drivers are done and you have restarted

Looks like I am really late to the game, disregard this whole post.

Just a lil' too late

Back to the Wine subject before... i think i might have had an older or bad install of Wine before when i was getting 40 fps avg.
i read online and decided to reinstall it from the terminal instead of a download.

Quote:
sudo apt-get install wine
after it finished i didnt reconfigure so i thought it was just the windowed mode... tried full screen today and YAY 200+fps rarely goes under(setting on low res is 1024*768)
i also dont have to do much to ook at time cuz i can use the panels in hide mode(like the arrows to hide the panel)
Just pause the game click the arrow and i can see the time OVER the game.
YAY for Ubuntu. ive already moved over most of my music collection(really fast transfer rates for some reason)
Music is on a 1 tb seagate sata II and i moved it onto my 80 gb ide drive

P.S dont bash mah grammah/punkchuation skillz

why move your music? linux has no problem accessing an ntfs file system just add the drive to your fstab so its auto mounted and you shouldnt have any problems
