Thanks for that. So you reckon the i3-540 should handle 1080p perfectly along with the 5570?

Without a even breaking a sweat... But as downlinx said you'll need the good codecs, and that brings you to the K-lite Codec Pack 7.0 with MPC. Or Mediacenter software like XBMC or BOXEE that uses internal codecs.

Cheers smile.gif I'm doing a revised list of components and will post here when done.

If your going to be running an ITX board how are you going to have space for both the dedicated gpu and the capture card.

Also if your satellite box has arial out then you might be better off getting an Hauppauge card. I do know it works however I have not tried it as I only record freeview at home. Sky in the UK uses DVD-S2 so any card that supports that should work.

As for the spec is there any reason it needs to be itx? If not it might be worth looking at mATX AMD.

For software I use XBMC but the recording plug in is still a little buggy sometimes. Win MCE imo is the best software for recording but for everything else its a bit crap and the formats it records in is annoying

Hi there. This box is for South Africa, and the satellite there has composite video out at the moment, so I wouldn't be able to use what you are mentioning.

Also, the reason for the HD capture card (not the Hauppage) is because I want the HD inputs of HDMI and component.

I'm not sure about the space.. I was hoping someone had the case or experience with it here that could assist I guess.

With regards to the mobo - it is Micro ATX afaik? http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3444#sp

Question, is there any reason you're building LGA-1156? Where are you buying from? You can build a Sandy Bridge-based HTPC for around the same price.

By the way, why would you need to record from your Sony 1080p camcorder via HDMI? I'm pretty sure it's bound to have a PC-compatible connector of some sort that won't require you to re-encode the videos you recorded.

Thanks, very true that..

No reason for the 1156.

I just want something to satisfy the requirements with a bit of performance room if ever needed.

Why not? The LGA1155 platform does not ad anything usefull for an HTPC and LGA1156 boards are still cheaper and better available...

@aae55555, if you can look for one with DDR3 they are not much more expensive but should provide better performance. DDR2 will even limit an low end card.

Ahh ok, the 4400 has s-video but that lacks the quality for hd. You can get expansion brackets for it however and they do do one with a composite port on it(we use them at work with 2200's.)

http://www.hack7mc.com/ is a great site for using MCE and has lots of great guides on removing ads etc...
