New GPU, RAM or CPU?

Thread Starter
Didn't quite know where to put this but seeing as though I have an ATI Card and i'm thinking I need a new one more than anything else, so I put it here.

Okay, specs are below my signature, anything else you need to know more specifically please ask.

I've been able to run most new game releases on high settings with good fps. Mostly play Strategies(i.e. Total War, Civ V) but having purchased the new Shogun II: TW it appears my system has shown it's first sign of needing an upgrade sometime in the near future.

I'm not completely sure as to what is best for me to upgrade..

My GPU is only 512mb so i'm thinking that would be next? I haven't overclocked my CPU as i'm not familiar with it and don't what to phuk it up(learning). And finally 3GB RAM, but i'm not sure if I upgrade to 4GB i'll see much difference in game performance @ 32bit.

Also, what are the pros & cons for a gamer when deciding on 32 OR 64bit besides the ability to go beyond 4GB or RAM?

Any GPU recommendations?

3gb or 4gb doesnt matter..you cant see difference ...so forget ram upgrade(and you need win 7 64 bit for 4gb)

your cpu good but 2.4ghz a little low..try to o/c your cpu 3ghz..

and you need new graphic card i think..you can gain %50 more performance when you upgrade to 6870..

you dont need new ram or new cpu..you need 6870 or (have you got money?)6950...6950 best chose for you..

Overclock your CPU and maybe invest in a better heatsink/fan for it.

As for your graphics, you can upgrade your GPU and that will boost the system's performance hugely!

What is your budget?

No budget limit.. just not completely sure what i'm buying. I'll obviously have to do some research on CPU overclocking so as to not crap it up. So a RAM upgrade will do nothing at all even if I upgrade to a 64bit?

Here's a very nice guide for overclocking a Q6600: http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...sic-guide.html

As for a graphics card, like calebkan said, a 6950 would be nice.

As for a heatsink/fan for the CPU, an AC Freezer 7 or a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus would be sufficient. Just make sure they could fit in your case.

You should get a 5870 for around 230 at newegg, its the bet bang for your buck right now. It comes close to and someitmes even beats a 6950.

If you upgrade the video card your going to want to switch to the 64Bit version of 7 sicne your already running 7 you should just have to reinstall with a 64Bit disk as the key will activate both versions. If you get a card with 2GB ram your gonna see system ram drop to 2GB with 3GB installed due to the way windows maps memory
