dilemma on secondary pc.

Thread Starter
Ok, I have my old sig rig,
a c2d e6600 @ 3.2ghz with 2gb ram and an 8800gts. My motherboard just crapped out so i will be trying to sell off the cpu and memory, maybe even the motherboard. my question is. for 1680 x 1050 will an 8800gts 640 96sp be fine or should I sell that to and get a new card or maybe do sli? I can grab another 8800 gts for like $60, If i sell it for $60 how much would i have to spend to find a card better than this one without breaking the bank.

well how did it run before? well?
also are you getting as new motherboard?

what i would recommend is selling that 8800 and getting something a bit newer than that, SLi probably wont be much of an Increase

The 8800GTS 640MB is more or less 8800GT 512 performance, with slightly higher power consumption. So at 1680x1050 it can still play a decent amount of games, provided you don't go too crazy with graphics settings.

At this point, I think you're better off keeping the card as a backup or project card because even 8800GT's are going for around $50 or less used. It's unlikely that you will make much more than that - especially after shipping and Paypal fees.

I made a similar decision to just keep my old 8800GT as a spare in the event I needed it. Thankfully that decision paid itself off when I needed to send in both of my GTX 570's for Step Up.
