thanks allot guys you've been a lot of help

Well it's harder to overclock if you are using the iGPU in the i3 since that needs to be controlled as well. The clock on the iGPU goes up with the BCLK.

As it is right now, without the 5770 or whatever you decide to buy, overclocking is useless. You can't run anything with either graphics adapter you have and your board is probably far too limited to handle a decent overclock. You could probably sell your current 1156 board, along with the C2D system you have and get a GPU and new 1156 board.

You'll also need to spend more then a few days figuring everything out. After switching from AMD AM3 stuff, and coming to Intel it took me about a week to get everything figured out(with help). There is a core i3 club thread with tonnes of help and resources here. You can also Google "core i3 3 step guide" for more help and theory on core ix overclocking.

Unless your chip or board is garbage/defective 4GHz minimum should be easily attainable.

The iGPU clock can be controlled separately (at least it can on my Gigabyte board).
