I've been following these questions for a while as I'm debating on a 6950 and I was led to believe that most of the 2GB cards ARE reference models and the 1GB models are more likely to be non-reference. Hmm..

I just bought a new ASUS 6950 2 GB which was an "overclocked" version (lol core clock at 810MHz), and it unlocked quite nicely.

If a non-reference doesn't unlock does the card get brick or can u flash the card back to normal and it will still work?

You can flash it back easy. I bricked one of my cards messing with RBE and it took a moment or two to fix.

Also, I'm not sure I've ever heard any confirmation that Non-reference 2GB cards won't unlock. I'm pretty sure it's just speculation at this point.

Just checked in to ask this very question and where to find one. I've looked at the links to Newegg and those items have been deactivated. Are there any reverence cards to be had anywhere?

You really just have to get lucky and check Newegg randomly throughout the day for the open box 6950 models, as they seem to often be reference cards. The online deals section of the forum frequently has threads when the Egg has posted new cards, but they go within 5-10 minutes of being posted. I only got lucky myself earlier today, but I've been looking for less than a week so don't give up hope of not landing one eventually. I wouldn't wait, though; open box buys are such a crapshoot that who knows when NewEgg's supply will run out.

I have an unused brand new diamond hd 6950 at home. I didnt know reference models wwere being phased out.

Might be time to sell it on the marketplace rather than hold it for trifire in the future.
