i7 950 temps on D14 are too high - Page 2

Those temps are fine dependent on your ambient. Idle temps don't make a difference. 70C is still safe for stress testing. In games you should see no more than 60*C.

The real problem here is your stock Vcore. As you can see under load your processor is sucking up 1.24v. That's damn near as much as mine is using for 4GHz.

Paste that comes with the NH-D14 is actually really good for what it is.

Noctua paste should be fine. You can buy higher end paste like MX-4 or X23 but it will only lower temps by a couple degrees at most.

so it's my voltage then that's causing the temps to be this high. I will try toning it down for now. thx for the tip.

let me know your thoughts, are they ok?

CPU is set at default settings, no changes made.

i applied about 5mm of paste, is that too little?

Whats wrong with those temps? well within normal ranges. Volts may be a little high as suggested. Also whats your case airflow like?

they don't seem high too you? CPU is on default settings, i just thought that my temps should be much lower, but I think that it the voltage cuasing this issue. what should I set it to?

If you haven't tweaked anything in the BIOS or tried to overclock it before you could just set it to auto. But if you have played around with the settings I'd set everything back to defaults to see if that helps any.

Your temps are actually fine at idle and load (mine are right around that with the same CPU and heatsink), but if you really wanted to lower them then dropping the voltage is likely the fastest and easiest way of doing so.

Did you just up the multi to 24 and leave the vcore on auto? If so, you should be able to drop vcore to close to 1.0... somewhere in there...

didn't make any changes in bios every thing is default from the factory, except the memory set to xmp to make it run at 1600Mhz. would that make a difference.
