There is mSATA.

This is a modified mini PCIe spec which also connects to the SATA controller directly. It is an undocumented feature on newer laptops (especially from Dell or Lenovo).

Why would you have to do that? I don't think that just because it is integrated means it has to be integral to whether the board functions at all. Disabling an IGP isn't an issue.

This is just additional storage, maybe good to install the OS at the MB factory in some cases.
