Shift 2 PERFORMANCE fixes - Page 3

Anyways, by far this is the best fix I've seen yet. I'm Running the following specs:
  • 2 ATI Radeon HD4850 512 in Crossfire
  • GA-MA790x Gigabyte AM3 Motherboard (SB 750)
  • 4GB (2x2GB) 4-4-4-12 800mhz G.Skill Memory (1066 doesnt work with my board, go figure..)
  • AMD Phenom II X3 720 OC@3.2GHz Unlocked Fourth Core (AMD Phenom II x4 955 Equivalent)

Previously I had RadeonPro (3rd party software) set to Alternate Frame Rendering, which gave decent performance. But anything reflective would constantly flicker and night races would look awful.

I tried Ekko's steps, and exited RadeonPro, and to my surprise any and all Flickering is gone! Unfortunately I've experienced two problems:
  1. Anti-aliasing still isn't present, plenty of ugly jaggies
  2. Performance is still at 30-40 FPS, so no performance gains
  3. This may or may not be due to the fact that I hooked my computer up to my 26" 720P TV. It runs at 1376 x 768, so setting the game to run at 1920 x 1080 results in an awful looking image, but 1280 x 1024 (a 4:3) resolution won't really look too good on a wide screen TV either.

What am I doing wrong? I used the exact settings used by Ekko, and no matter what resolution I use, Jaggies are still present. Performance isn't there either, but I think that may be out of our hands. There's no way I can run HL2 Episode 2 at over 100 FPS maxed 4x AA and 4x Anistropic. HDR, all that eye candy and can't run this game over 50 FPS at a lower resolution than my monitor's 1680 x 1050...

Are you guys sure you have AA even though this essentially disables it? I'd like to get this working if possible. I have a good system, but I'm running three screens and the game does lag on certain tracks with AA.

I had the same issue. However, doing as Ekko said helped a lot but i still have lags but not as much as it used to be. I have a Dell Studio 15 with Core 2 Duo CPU @ 2.20 Ghz and 512mb ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 graphics card with 4gb ram on 32-bit Vista. Is it that my pc is not that fast for the game? Please help.
Thanks

This actually works! Was thinking is my E6600 with 4870x2 too damn old already since it's totally unplayable. Now i'm able to run it at 1920x1200 decently.biggrin.gif

Hi,

Like many others I have registered just to say thanks to EKKO, for a stunning piece of work.

I have not set it up yet but my reasoning that I say thank you is because it all makes sense and I have spent the last 5 days trolling through EA's forum trying to find an answer and all I get is guys having a pop at each other, so this was refreshing to see a forum that concentrated on the core event. Well done for keeping it sane...

My problem is not really down to the specks of my rig, Ok the ram needs a boost, but then my rig is set to Max performance and no bling. I have the bling on my businesses workstation.

I also suffer from lag in a big way, and terrible FPS on 3 screens in Eyefinity, I get about 17 and I even windowed it and its not much better at 19 with everything on low or off.

So I'll give this a bash tonight and see if I get some gains like the others have…I hope so.

I am a novice sim racer, FPS is my thing, until I played Shift 1, which I though was great, then Grid, which is different in every way and I am still working on it but getting better, then I got NFS Hot Pursuit, what a disappointment as there was no way to set up my wheel, so it's left on the shelf. Now I have shift 2, initially a complete let down with the cars skipping everywhere, but days of tweaking and I am getting somewhere, but still laggy and bugger all FPS.

Ill keep you in the loop.

Thanks
JJ

Kinda worked for me, but still not as i wished frown.gif framerate went up about 15 fps, but still around 30-40ish, and enough jaggies to cut an arm off. EA really let me down with this, considering the first shift looked much better, and still gave me a 60-70 frame average. im just hoping a patch will save the game, like the patch for the first shift, that fixed the memory leak.

I think this process simply removes AA, which of course helps the frame rate. At least someone is trying to help though. Without AA I can run at 5040x1050 no probs smile.gif It only stutters occasionally in replays.

Dear Ekko, you have made a WONDERFUL job. I was playing it kinda laggy at 1024/768 with med details, after one race I was kinda desperate. Too much lagging on this graphic card. I tossed Shift 2 out. But after googling, thanks to you, I updated my AMD drivers on my sweet Mobility Radeon HD 5650, set up exactly as you wrote and Shift 2 runs smoothly with kinda more less worse AntiAliasing, but with settings like all full and max res (1366/768) it goes smoothly like heaven. Many thanks to you smile.gif Now I just need to fix that Controller steering issue (I have Logitech Chillstream with XboX 360 drivers, no problem in all games) but this game responses like 0.25 secs after I turn, after all the googling, nothing helped me and I'm still stuck with this problem.
