M11x(r2) sees 4GB but only uses 2GB.

My pagefile has been getting huge, everything is stuttering even though I have a Vertex 2 60GB, and the resource monitor is reading 2123MB's as "Hardware Reserved".
Thanks to the clitchy Alienware overlay that came with the laptop, along with my own prog's, the 2073MB's of free memory is constantly pegged. I have no idea why 2GB are being "Reserved" but its causing major problems.

Does anyone know what this could be, how I can find out what is reserving half my RAM, or how I can fix it?

Oh and before anyone asks, yes it is a 64bit OS (Win7).
Kingston 4GB set rated at 1866MHz although the chipset only allows it to run at 1333MHz.

So thanks for the help guys.

I read around a bit and found a lot of other people having the same or similar problems. but it seemed to stem from many different potential issues so I'm not sure which one mine is. I gave in and ordered an 8GB set of RAM and a Vertex 2 120GB drive. Haven't wiped the machine and loaded the 120GB drive yet. But the RAM is in and although it sees all of it, now its reserving over 6GBs!
So I'm right back where I started with a huge pagefile, pegged RAM, and a stuttering computer. Plus I got a great deal on a set of slightly lower freq RAM, but as I'm not actually able to use the extra 4GB, it might as well be a downgrade.
Once again, any ideas guys?

when you load up something that takes up more than 2gb, what happens to the "hardware resrvered" ram?

that could be some kind of pre-loading software in alienware that loads up some bloaware, but the memory becomes free when the system needs it.

be more specific on the stuttering. happens all the time, or when you play games, etc.

Okay, while I was playing around in various sysconfig folders, I noticed that the toggle value for "Maximum Memory" in MSCONFIG>Boot>Advanced Options tab was set to "0". I reset that to "8192" and reboot.
I got 4 of my Gigs back although I'm back to looking at 2187 MB of wasted "Hardware Reserved" space. But at least I have some breathing room I guess.

btw, are your hard drive, graphics, and cpu benches inline with other similar systems?

3dmark, hd tune. etc.

Happens all the time but mostly after leaving it idle for a few minutes and coming back to access a browser or pretty much anything else running although honestly I do more multi tabbed web browsing than anything else these days.

Does the Nvidia GPU in there have the TurboRAM or whatever it is that does that?

On my friend's laptop with that enabled, he had hardware reserved RAM, but it was only 512 MB.

EDIT: Or perhaps it's the Intel GPU doing this...

Not much of a benchmarker although I've had a few driver issues as well with odd devices and the BIOS and Intel HD Graphics not loading successfully due to "Incompatibility with 64bit OS" even though they are definitely the 64bit drivers and my OS is definitely 64bit.

Everything seems to be good as far as the GFX go;
Dedicated video Mem: 1024 MB DDR3
System Video Mem: 0 MB
Shared System Mem: 2746 MB
Total Available Graphics Mem: 3770 MB
running 267.76 right now.
