Overclock resets suddenly resets while playing games

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

my GTX 560 overclock keeps resetting every time I start playing in a game.
The screen suddenly goes black for a sec or two, then comes back.

If I minimize to see what happened all the settings went back to normal, it is very annoying and I can't seem to find a way to keep it locked at the new settings. The card runs very cool at 30-40 degrees and it worked just fine with the old 266.66 driver. I tried reinstalling it, but it still wouldn't work. So I installed the 270.58 driver again.

And no, it's not unstable, since I only overclocked it to 930Mhz & memory clock to 2100.

Anyone got a solution to lock the overclock at it's current position?

When the screengoes black that indicates that the driver has crashed, you should lower the overclock. Download GPUZ
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

after it goes black see for yourself the clocks have likely gone down.

/agree with above

What card you using? (specifically)

What Program are you using for OC?

Update your rig info on usercp

Helps us eliminate any issues.

Thank you,

Sorry if I forgot to tell, but I already have GPU-Z and that's what I use for checking if the overclock had reset.

@NitroNarcosis

My card is a reference Inno3d GTX 560ti clocked at 822Mhz

I used to use MSI afterburner, but I just downloaded EVGA precision if it makes any difference.

how do I even do that? (regarding the usercp)

I had this problem quite frequently on bc2, but other games played fine... mind you bc2/multiplayer is fairly demanding... although it has happened once on Shogun 2 (luckily it simply tabs out and tabs back in without skipping a beat) come to find out a bloom setting in bc2 was causing me some issues... addressed that, and my problems went away with it... if its every game, you may need to bench it/burn it with furmark/kombuster/heaven and see where your at... if its game specific... could be a driver or over temp/vdroop issue due to some way the game is programed.

Okay, so I updated my hardware, I tried lowering the overclock, it worked until the battle begun and my fps dropped a little.

Even though I was still at 80 fps (in shogun 2) my drivers crashed and I had to lower it yet again.

There's a thing with shogun 2. If I overclock my graphics card, the game will look better, even though I don't change the ingame settings.

Creative Assembly in the current build utilize some kinda 'post effect anti-aliasing' for whatever that means, rather than have the aa adjustable... it could be something with the vram utilization falling within a certain parameter and turning on/off effects based on loads... I can't really say one way or the other... still messing with my profiles settings and benching the game for frame rates...

Although I did notice (could of just been me) that post processing hooks (frame rate clocks) that it "seemed" to chunk a little more than I would of liked... who knows... going to try to new Nvidia 270.xx drivers today and check it again... with some luck the dx10/dx11 patch will come out, and we will be able to lock down some of these options for ourselves.

I have had it do exactly what you talked about one time in S2, but my settings were not compromised as yours where and the game came back up as if I had alt tabbed.

By chance do you vsync, triple buffer, and LOD clamp?
