Phenom II x 6 1055T can be a huge bottleneck. - Page 7

This thread is comparing just the CPU's only when mobo's haven't even been considered. The motherboard can significantly impair a crossfire or SLI set-up.

That said, I have a question:
Was the X6 at 100% utilization while playing BFBC2?

I know my X4 is only at around 50-60% while playing BFBC2 on high. Granted I'm on a 5770, but I've seen several Crossfire rigs that haven't maxed out an X4.

CPU was at 100% on all cores and tried two different premium boards. It was the x6 that was bottlenecked I have a not so great board now but a great cpu and it worked.

6950s and 6970s in crossfire are allot for a cpu to handle seems only intel can do it on single monitor setup.

Exactly.

Most games don't even use all 6 cores, and some games being console ports are too inefficiently power hungry anyway.

@OP

Thank you very much for this informative post / thread. ( I didn't do any research into CPU's yet cuz I wanted to wait for bulldozer but this piece of info is very useful ) I never knew AMD's fastest CPU on the market can be a bottleneck for their own fastest GPU on the market

Don't mind the monkeys that don't bother to read the whole thread or that refuse to acknowledge information with proof right in front

And to ppl who say SB didn't win yet ur wrong, it HAS won based on the CURRENT available market selection, it MIGHT (and I hope it does) lose WHEN bulldozer is out.
This isn't a race with a finish line, its a never ending race and all it matters is who is on top RIGHT NOW based on price/performance.

Then once I OC'd like these sandy chips were made for to 4.5GHz I am now getting around 135 Avg and tops around 200 sometimes for quick moments on maxed out settings. This little quad core is a straight killer.gunner.gif

dude...i pull the same amount of frames as you in battlefield with 5870 with the phenom x6 clocked at 4.3ghz....you think i should upgrade to a sandy bridge? LOL. you act like the phenom is such a bad processor...i bought this processor on launch date...so i can say its pretty old for me. if i were to upgrade...i would want the next best thing. if i were to upgrade...i would definitly grab the 2600k due to the fact i do other things besides gaming as well. and yes..you were to build a system from scatch..sandy bridge would be the best route. side note...i doubt anyones gaming on a 32 inch with resoution of 1680x1050 or 1920x1080. big monitor...ugly resoultion for that size and its too big. are you sitting like 6 feet away from your pc? its more pimp if you go mutiple montior setup or grab a nice 30 with 2560x1600 resoution for muliple gpu setup.

No doubt not diasagreeing at all. Just built this damn thing not to long ago. I will definitly be getting eyefinity as part of my next toy. Just can only afford so mutch at a time, you feel me?

If you read my other post I say phenom is great for budget build, just not 6950s Xfire. People are so damn quick on these threads to **** talk, acting all tufff behind a keyboard. I did not start off by bashing anyone except those who bash me. Like I said Noob at building gaming rigs. However I think im doing alright in the short amount of time I have been dealing with upgrading and overclocking.

as soon as i read this thread i got curious about gpu load on my HD3870 X2

i used both gpu z and msi afterburner just to realize that only one of the 2 cores of my card actually works under load....

i really dont know why but one of the 2 cores is always at 99-100% load when benchmarking and the other one is at 0%

isnt that a bit strange? could it be because of the cpu? is there something wrong with my graphics card?

any help would be much appreciated

I simply ignored all those pages. It's funny how these "SB is the best" threads getting more and more on Bulldozer's launch.

BTW, doesn't intel have HT ? 4 core means 8 threads? x6 has 6 threads biggrin.gif

Right there you just confirmed that when resolution its not high enough to bottleneck a gfx card (and the CPU start to become more important) AMD´s cpus doesnt have the horsepower wink.gif

And if you put that situation in the same resolution (32" HD monitor, read the thread) AND still the SB its faster than whatever AMD have now.. well, the thread its clear teaching.gif

1.- Clock per clock, intel arch its faster, doesnt matter what res are you running

2.- AMD its cheaper (NOT performance per value wich its different) than INTEL, and you get noticeable less performance, specially for high end gfx cards in multi gpu configs

3.- You get what you pay for.. with all the pros and cons, period.

1 more thing (advice to anyone): get all emo/fanboy when the company you "love" start to send you a pay check.. because, right now its the other way around (you pay to them wink.gif )
