with 420 watts i would say you are cutting it close, but it depends on the GPU and what you are doing clocking wise, I would say get higher wattage for future builds and for more security in stable power
post #3 of 21
Second link is Bad. Also, I would recommend a minimum of a good 500W PSU, depending on the rest of your system....please fill in System Specs in User CP

Can I have the model number of your Dell please...that will move things along a little faster

that is good

5770 is more than enough at that resolution

that psu is also good, you don't need more unless you want to upgrade with keeping the psu
you might want to get a more powerfull one if you are planing on upgrading later and keeping the psu
i have tested a configuration with 5770 and no name psu with 420W (which had real wattage of 320W) and corsair has good psu's so it is fine
i myself would get a better psu which would last me a long time if i had the money
but if you are on a tight budget that is perfectly fine, just don't expect that you can build a new pc (more power hungry) with it in a couple of years

A really great combo and you're all set

umm you say you have inspirion 580, that has a mini pc case, right?
if so, how long is it on the inside, i don't think 5770 (length 8.1875") will fit inside if it is mini case

That is an ok psu. Its good for the price, but if I were u, I'd get something that has better efficiency. Just get this one for example, for 5$ more, its 80+ rated...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371023
And btw, 400w is more than enough to run a 5770. You should see those very crappy 400w psu dell puts in its ''gaming'' machine (SARCASM...1500$ for a i5 750 and a 5770...lol), the psu has like disgusting efficiency and isn't even rated for 400w...if a multinational like dell accepts to put crappy psus like that in a system with a 5770, then you can be sure that 400w is enough for your needs, they couldnt afford to have millions of RMA for cause of too weak psus on their machines...
Also, the 5770 is an ok card, but IMO, you should get a used gtx460 here on OCN or on ebay for about the same price, and get much much better performance.
Good luck!
