DDR2 RAM Upgrade

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I'm looking to upgrade my old rig to 4GB RAM and am looking for some suggestions on RAM to compliment the 2GB I already have. (2x 1GB DDR2 800 (PC2 6400))

I'm using this G.Skill RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231065

And I have this motherboard (ASUS p5n32-e sli): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131073

What's the best thing I can get for this system? Any suggestions?

Also should I just consider replacing the memory with a new set of paired RAM? (2x 2GB)?

Thanks! I always appreciate the insight I get on this forum.

That depends, 32-bit OS or 64?

32: You won't see all 4GB if you add 2(x1GB) more. $40 for a ram upgrade isn't a big deal pricewise in my book, so I'd say spring for that.

64: Get a 2x2GB and make it 6GB. (for "best" you could even go to 8 GB - but that's a good lot of ram for a DDR2 system!)

Your board needs 800, and I say go with G.Skill. I have 24GB of theirs lying around in various computers. Never had a single issue. Corsair is awesome too, but usually comes at a price premium.

Good luck with the upgrade.

I have a 32-bit system.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=1&PageSize=20

I'm thinking I'll go for a 4GB kit of one of these, CAS 4, like the PI Black. Any thoughts or are most of these going to be ~ the same?

Can anyone tell me what might be the best choice for DDR2 around $80?

Also, 2x 2GB or 4x 1GB? Will Windows recognize all the sticks (up to 3.4GB) either way?

Thanks for checking out my thread. I really appreciate the help even if they're boring questions. THANKS!!!

IF you have 32 bit your system will only recognise 3.2 gigs.. So get a one gig stick that is the same timing as the stick you have. 4-4-4 12 or 5-5-5 15

It won't make a bit of difference unless you find yourself running out of ram.2gb is plenty for a 32 bit system for the most part unless you run ram intensive programs.
