Received my new 570 GTX

Thread Starter
So my old graphics card which was 0.987 mV 786/1572/2100 @ default which died @ 1.050 mV 900/1800/2100 by furmark or 3Dmark11. Eventhough stresstested without error in OCCT.

So I got an RMA, on the returned order it said:
Checked card and the powersupply part was defective which made the card power off.

Which seems silly to me? because if the card just powered off it wouldn't be an issue for my pc to boot, it would just do so without a VGA.

And my pc wouldn't boot for more then 2 seconds with the card..

Anyways do you think my card died because of the clocks? Or was it weak card to begin with?

You mean my Cooler Master GX-750W 750 Watt? It isn't crappy lol. Delivers more then enough power this sytem uses. Way more.

Anyway he was talking about the powersupply part of the graphics card of course...

Honestly I doubt my clocks were the reason, the voltage wasn't high, and temp never exceeded 75 degrees.

yes he means you cooler master PSU...

Anyway I would be willing to bet that the voltage and clocks were the cause of the problem. the GTX 580 is the only 5 series card that has, decent, safe OC/OV ability.

That motherboard cannot boot without a GPU. Try another working GPU? Are you sure it was your GPU that crapped out?

Sure motherboards can boot without GPU? It would not display of course, not sure if it would boot into windows or at least not shut it self down within 3 seconds like what happend with me. Not 100% sure on this though.

Not to mention my sandy bridge processor has a GPU function too.

And I read clocks don't kill ur card, only voltage and temps do. And since I only increased voltage 0.063 and temps didn't go above 75 degrees I doubt that very much. Mostly people begin to wonder when you exceed 1.1 or 1.2V or 90 degrees which I clearly haven't.

May have been card but that PSU is not the best. Its more like a 600W unit apparently but it should still be enough for a single 570. Some 570s have been dying from overclocks they can't handle so it was most likely the card.

LoL it may not be the best but it's certainly a good psu. Look here:
www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6643 60A: 720 W Is not bad.

Some say Corsair is better well let's take a look
http://www.corsair.com/power-supplie...er-supply.html

62A: 720 W

Nominal differences..

Anyway it might even be able run gtx 570 in SLI. I asked the retailer but he wasn't sure it might be just in or out of range of the psu. And I used different PSU calculators which said it would probably work.

So no in single card mode this PSU will have NO problems at all, (assuming it's a healthy one)

It's possible they mean that one of the VRM's gave out. Even though it is a generally accepted guideline not to exceed 1.1V, there are those that may be susceptible to damage if pushed even slightly past stock voltage. It's part of the reason why I decided not to be too aggressive with my own 570's clocks before I decided to Step Up to 580's.

Unfortunately, the evidence is building up where it seems like these cards really just don't like to be pushed too far past stock clocks. Your best bet is to just see how far you can push on your new card with the stock voltage while maintaining stability to insure the longest life possible.
