In a previous post, I mentioned our plans for supporting ATI GPUs. I'm happy to announce that with the release of v7 into open beta, we have now released ATI core 16 GPU3 WUs into advanced methods for Folding@home. Please see Dr. Lin's forum post for details.

Those who were using the client-type beta flag, you should now remove it.
It was never meant to be used to begin with, hopefully these units that are released will perform better.

You should now be using this flag. (instructions below)

client-type
advanced

How to get the new Fahcore16 - Advance/Expert mode required
ATI/AMD 5xxx & 6xxx series only!

Doing this does not stop old core11 units from downloading and folding, it only gives you access to the new units.

If in the middle of a work unit, right-click finish then wait for it to complete.
Once it is finished, then follow the instructions

1) Click the "Configure" button in the top left, and go to the slots tab.

2) Highlight the "gpu" slot, and click "Edit"

]

3) At the bottom, under "Extra slot options (expert only), click "Add". Enter the following:

Name: client-type
Value: advanced

4) Restart your folding slot by right-clicking it and choosing "Fold".

For optimizations check out this post.

Something to keep in mind there.

Mine won't work, even at stock clocks with nothing else running. It seems that my card refuses to wake up from it's 2D clocks of 157/300

Staying with V6 for a little longer me thinks.

Which is ok, this is mainly to get ATI users on board.

hey , i registered just to inform you guys that you acutally can reduce the cpu usage on the amd client.

i have an i7 920 @ 3,69 GHz and i run it with a 5870 @ 1 GHz.
the 5870 takes up 2-5 % of my cputime.

this is achieved by changing some enviroment variables and inserting fresh amd dll's into the folding folder.

ill link to some guides about this , and then ill go to sleep if anyone has any questions i can answer them in around 8 hours.

enviroment variables guide & folding forums thread

and for the dlls you simply go to the place amd unpacks its drivers .
i use the 11.4 preview drivers so this is the directory they are in for me

Code:
C:\\AMD\\AMD_Catalyst_11.4_Preview_Win7_March23\\Packages\\Drivers\\Display\\W76A_INF\\B115839
we want the folowing files
aticalcl.dl_
aticalcl64.dl_
aticalrt.dl_
aticalrt64.dl_

copy them to a separate folder and navigate to that folder via cmd and run
Code:
expand ati*.dl_ -r ati*.dll
this expands them from their compressed state , and renames them .dll.
then run
Code:
ren ati*.dll amd*.dll
this renames them to the proper name.
now move these to your gpu folding folder , which should be something like c:\\Folding@home-Win32-GPU_Vista-631 if you are running the gpu client.

or something like c:\\FAHClient if you are running the new V7 client
there should already be files in that folder , so when prompted to replace , pick yes, its a good idea to backup the old files just incase!
also take a look at the old date of the files that came with the folding client and giggle a bit.

thats that , combined with tuned enviroment variables , you should be able to get 100% gpu utilization with lowered cpu utilization.

and also , it looks like F@H has oficially gone out with an amd core 16 project for people who run advmethods

no , its no april fools i promise.... http://folding.typepad.com/news/2011...er-boards.html

Edit : i made a batchfile for the dll part incase anyone feels lazy.
note that it takes all files that are named ati* ( you could hard"code" in the 4 specific files i guess)
, so do not link it directly to the driver folder , cause its going to spit out every single file in there to the folding folder, so make sure you copy out the 4 files to a separate location and let the batch file take it from there .

Code:
cd C:\\driverfolder
expand ati*.dl_ -r ati*.dll
ren ati*.dll amd*.dll
copy amd*.dll C:\\yourfoldingfolder

Wish there was a way to force 3D clocks with AMD drivers. I'm confident that would let me run x16 units.
