Strange noise+shutdown under load

Hello everyone! My first post, etc... :-)

After some testing im pretty sure my power supply is the culprid here. Normally everything works fine. But under load my PSU starts making a weak buzzing sound, something like an electric arc or as if something clawing a fan, its hard to notice but its a very stable and predictable noise.

It's not the CPU because i can change the multiplier or core clock and swing it between 2GHz to 3.5GHz with no changes to the testing results.

I could easily test it by firing up Global Agenda and just hang out in the lobby with 10 other players in sight. After 1-3 minutes the sound would start followed by an unavoidable shutdown later.

The problem lies in the fact that when i play games such as Starcraft 2, Mass Effect 2 or RIFT it would always result in a random shutdown of the computer. At first i thought it was my GPU so i increase the Fan speed to 100% (EVGA). Later i downclocked and it seem to stabilize. GPU never goes above 85C under max load even with fan on auto/40% but i always try to keep it in the 70-80 range.

Wich brings me to the question: Is this a problem of not enought power or is the supply faulty?

If it's not enought power i will need to buy new one, probably around 700W. If it's a faulty one i think i can replace with some other that i have at home with perhaps 400W and still work because that calculation tool i found while searching for an answer before posting this gave me 350W so even if i use another with 400W or 450W it should still work.

Considering that Linkworld makes what is basically junk PSU's I would imagine it is the culprit. You need to replace it with a GOOD QUALITY Psu. Something in the 400 to 450 watt range like an Antec EarthWatts 430 or an Antec NeoEco 400 would work just fine. Unless the other one you have laying around are a lot better quality than that piece of crap Linkworld then they aren't going to work any better.

Since you didn't bother to fill in the Location or Where You Live portion of your profile it's useless for us to recommend specific sales as we would have no way of knowing which would be applicable to you.

Yeah, the Recommended PSU List is a good place to start. But be aware that there have been a couple of new PSU's that have been released lately that aren't on it yet that are also worth getting.

Then you'll need to use an adapter or go a bit higher. Look at a 500-650watter. I have no idea what is available in your area.

Got a Corsair CX600 and it fixed the problem, now everything works fine and no auto-reboots.
