Painting a TJ07

Thread Starter
Hey guys, just curious as to whether or not I should take the time to paint my TJ07 myself or pay to have it powder coated. I do not have too much money to blow on this project, would powder coating cost as much as it would for me to buy all the materials to paint it myself?

Cheers.

Painting will be cheaper but you will get a better result and a tougher surface from powder coating.

Powdercoating would def be the way to longterm/serious way to go... I know that autoshops charge about ~50-70$ per wheel(just to give you a surface area/price range). Although, if you're just wanting to paint the interior, use plastidip for a cheaper solution+sound insulation(minimal).

I painted the inside of mine with a single coat of Satin Black Plastikote, one spray can, £8. Probably could have done with another coat as it's not especially durable, but it looks good. It's not like I scratch away at the inside of my case.

I'd recommend more than one coat depending on paint/how much you have.

Powercoating looks great, is durable, but considerably more.

I think I might set up the Garage and just do this baby myself, I painted my HAF932 and it looked amazing. I'll take my time with it and get it looking good.

Should I sand it down prior to painting? Also would you recommend some white base coats prior to the black?
