Skyrim seems to be going back towards morrowind more than oblivion. So im still reserving judgement, even though it will be a horrible port, Just look at the UI, totally useless.
You can't say it will be a horrible port. You never know until you actually experience the game and its features.

We must have faith in developers like Bethesda. They're one of few good ones around.

Not sure about DX11, but it is true for DX10, with Crysis in DX10 mode with actual DX10 and not DX9, it feels smooth at 20fps for me, in DX9 with the hacked DX10 stuff, some stuff doesn't actually work nor does it feel smooth at 20fps.

Not really to do with talent, it's mostly that while spending ages making graphics that would melt even a GTX 580 SLI rig and fill up the framebuffer of a HD6990 would be great for a modder to do in their free time, if the people making Skyrim did it, no-one would benefit as they wouldn't make much more cash from it.

oblivion, while a fun game, was a complete and total port, just like FO3. The UI and everything about the game design was made to be played with a controller.

Oblivion I can agree with. It still feels better on PC though. Fallout 3 on the other hand just felt wrong to me playing with a controller. I've played through and beaten it on both 360 and PC, and PC felt so much better.

I also kind of expect things like that in a multi-platform game. I'm starting to feel like port is getting thrown around a little too much. Designing a game specifically for PC, then dumbing it down so it can run on consoles will make for a pretty poor console game. Designing a game that can run on PC and consoles all together, then adding in features for the PC does not seem like a port. Developing a game specifically for console, then trying to modify it to run on PC is what a port is to me. Usually ports are sloppy and run poorly on PC.

Saints Row 2 is a good example of a port. Playing it on PC just felt awkward and made some aspects just not enjoyable.

Games from Bethesda feel right now matter what you play it on.

Who cares if we have the mod community that oblivion had? I never played oblivion with the original textures in the first place.

Just because our computers CAN handle way more than a console, does not mean developers are obligated in any way to appease you and utilize the platform to its full capabilities. That "bloody point" is simply the grumbling of self-entitled gamers. PC gamers need to be aware of how reality actually works and not the fairy tale world they seem to believe in:

- You have a better platform or have spent more (way more) money on it? Good for you! That was a personal consumer choice you made. The developers did not ask you to buy/build a gaming PC.

- Console gamers ARE typically happy regardless of what they have, but that is hardly relevant to your complaint. In fact, it only serves to emphasize the absurdity of your claim. If console gamers are completely satisfied with a much lower level of graphics, what incentive does a developer have to spend even more money to push graphics that only a MINUSCULE amount of people can enjoy? This becomes even MORE silly when you realize that PC games generate a MUCH smaller revenue stream than consoles.

- Consoles cannot handle as much as a PC is an indisputable fact. However, that again only serves against your case. Why would a developer waste money pushing graphics when the majority of their profit comes from consoles?

I will always be supportive of improvements in realistic graphics, but I am not dumb or delusional enough to think that developers owe me any special level of graphics or features. I am also not dumb or delusional enough to want developers to sacrifice gameplay and storyline for graphics as a lot of "gamers" on this forum seem so eager for developers to do. Games that are "fun" and "addicting" are way better than games that simply have a lot of bling.

People need to quit saying Bethesda's games are unstable. They are very stable. Oblivion was just picky about mods...

Port is neither good or bad, it all depends on the work done. BC2 is a port for the PC, but it is a good port, then you have bad ports like you mentioned.

OBlivion and FO3 arent the worst ports in the world, but they definately dont take advantage of PC features as much as they could. Just look at the Damn Auto aim for FO3.

Perhaps you should listen to the majority then. They are unstable, and buggy as hell. that doesnt mean their games arent fun. But i have run into probably 1000s of bugs in all of bethsofts games combined.

I just got through playing all possible quests in Oblivion on Vanilla. The game looks great for being near 5 years old, and ran smoothly. No bugs/crashes.
