Ahh, reminds me of last semester/three weeks ago. Feels good being a freshman in Electrical and Computer Engineering…

Shouldn’t it be 2V? The parallel resistors are an equivalent 2 Ohm resistance, bringing the total to 6 Ohms. By V=IR, that’s 1A of current in the circuit. 1A x 4 Ohms = 4V drop across the first resistor, leaving a potential of 2V between the second node and the node after the parallel resistors.

Then again, it’s late and I’m extremely tired. I may be making a stupid mistake.

Hmm...sounds like a problem for nodal analysis. When you said no internal resistance, it reminded me of physics class. (PH 213)

[(V_x - 6) / 4] + (V_x / 3) + (V_x / 6) = 0

3V_x - 18 + 4V_x + 2V_x = 0

9V_x = 18

V_x = 2V

Hmm...I got 2V doing nodal. You sure it isn't 2V?

Circuits are pretty easy, IMHO.

It is 2V. The resistance in parallel (well call it R23) is 2. With the R of the series part (well call it R1) that = Req of 6 ohms. 6 volts divided by the 6 ohm Req = 1 Amp of current. So the voltage dropped on the 1st resistor would be 1A x 4R =4Volts. That leaves 2 volts left over to go to the parallel side of the circuit. In parallel volts stay the same and current splits, just the opposite of series circuits.
