Thread Starter
so my am3 mobo died on me
and I found a grate deal on a abit IX38 QuadGT mobo

I'm selling the PII along with my ddr3 ram that I have and getting a lga775 cpu
right now the only lga775 cpu I have is a E5200 (so I'm able to use the mobo)

and me not being big on Intel (more of a amd guy)
would like to know what is the best cpu I can use with that mobo (no budget)
along with the best one for under 250~300$ ( my budget )

i think that any of the q9xxx core 2 quad series cpus (minus the extreme versions) should fit within your 300cpu budget. however why not look at going with am3 x6 option that can be had for pretty much $300 as well the 1055t 6 core is under $200 and then you can just pick up a decient $120 motherboard and get much better performance outa your rig than spending $300 on an outdated socket?

heres the 775 newegg link the c2q q9505 looks like a pretty good deal for your set up and its at $240

Find a used Q9550 or other Core 2 Quad. They go for around $200 IIRC. The best CPU LGA775 can handle is the QX9770, which you most likely won't find, as it went for $1000 when it came out and is extremely rare today.

Just grab a q9550, cheap-ish for what you get, and they overclock nicely.

You bought one of those IX38 mobos then smile.gif good man, I mean they are BNIB...
