Rosetta@Home, huh? I've been concurrently crunching both WCG and Rosetta, but it looks like I'm gonna put WCG on hold for this month. =P

Damn. Can't wait for summer when I can fire up my 955 (and possibly Bulldozer). Crunching on a laptop at the moment... I can only do small project's/WU's since it's only on for ~14 hours of the day more or less....

Interesting.... But I'm already crunching away at a project that works decently well on my laptop. If it's working, I'm just not going to mess with it. And anyways looks like Rosetta is struggling to issue/generate WU's.

And I tried SETI once but couldn't complete it by the deadline (based on a rough guesstimate).

SIMAP sounds interesting but what kind of runtime are we looking at here? Can a T5550 complete them in a reasonable time?

Well, on my system, "boincsimap" takes about 41 minutes so far... the really long ones are einstein@home for CPU (7 hrs) and SETI@home CPU tasks. I have einstein now set to only run GPU apps... just added Simap and rosetta today... no rosetta tasks yet.

So count me in for APRILS projects...

And for your laptop, all of the mid range laptops (I own 3) suffer from lack of cooling and clogged cooling fins from dust running hard all the time (high temps). Hmm, I would say pick one that runs easy on your CPU and set the project to only use one CPU if overheat problems... Laptops are problematic in these high stress applications...

Thanks for the info. Adding SIMAP now. I guess I'll set it to run at 50%. So if it takes an average of 41 mins for an i7-950 at 4.38Ghz I'm guessing I should probably quadruple the runtime for my proc then? But I'll see what the real world performance is in a week or so.

As for the laptop. I've got it slightly underclocked and undervolted as well so temps shouldn't be an issue. As well I've take a can of duster to it recently so dust shouldn't be a problem.

Hmm, I'm not sure unless you're accounting for off time as well... Hmm, your processor is not bad at all... Maybe 2.25 times?

------------------------------------------------------------
(Longest times- Many go significantly faster at times...)

CPU time info too...

yoyo@home: Muon 1.10 - 7h51m
WGC: Proteome Folding Phase 2 6.40 - 4h6m
yoyo@home: Cruncher OGR 2.16 - 3h42m
boincsimap: application 5.12 - 0h39m
Seti@home: Astropulse v505 - about 14hrs
rosetta@home: Rosetta Mini 2.17 - 2h51m
PrimeGrid: Proth Prime Search 1.38 - about 8h30m

GPU time info for you:

einstein@home: Binary R-P Search 1.07 - 1hr47m
PrimeGrid: Proth Prime Search 1.38 - 0h41m
SETI@home: Enhanced 6.10 (cuda_fermi) - 0h44m - 0h13m (many take <4m)

------------------------------------------------------------
4/4/11 09:53

I don't think I've ever seen anything take longer than about 14 hrs so far... will keep this post updated maybe... possibly others wonder as well.

I think you made a good choice on what to run. boincsimap times will give you a better estimate on scaling against my times for your laptop.

Good luck to all of us!!

PS: I can't run at my top overclock due to temperatures out of control, so for now, these numbers are for CPU running at 4.179 GHz.
