Nvidia 3D Vision Monitor Specs

Thread Starter
Just a place to view some Nvidia capable 3D Monitor specs and news on Nvidia 3D Driver specs. (Some 3D Monitors may not be shown)

Questions and Answers about 3D.

1. I read it doesn't offer 3D through the HDMI input and you have to use the DVI to do it? Is this true? Users should understand that the 120Hz refresh rate is only available via dual-link DVI connections, and not possible through HDMI. The highest refresh rate available using HDMI is 60Hz, which is not enough for 3D Vision functionality. In order to benefit from 120 Hz you need a graphic card with dual-link DVI output capability.

2. Is there other software that needs to run for 3D enabled games? The glasses work with most games, which are automatically detected via the drivers. There are profiles within the drivers for each game.

3. Are there many games that offer 3D? Here is a complete LIST from Nvidia of 3D enabled games and their rating.

4. Is the monitor display have any issues with lighted rooms during viewing? The mirror-like glass panels reflects everything in the room from behind. Those with matted glass does not.

5. Is there eye strain associated with viewing 3D in gaming or blu-ray? Possibly, not everyone is capable of viewing in 3D. Some can view it fine, but others a feeling of motion-sickness or dizziness.

6. How long does one charge of the 3D glasses work for? Game for more than sixty hours on a single charge. Easily recharge your 3D glasses over a standard USB cable without frequently replacing batteries, and game for an entire week without needing to recharge your glasses. Automatically shuts off after 10 minutes when not in use to preserve battery life.

7. How do 3D glasses work to produce 3D vision? 3D is enabled by sending different images to each eye and the 3D glasses helps the eyes to separate these two image streams. This is pretty much the same concept as in the real world where your two eyes see two different images and the brain translates this into 3D. A 120hz monitor is required to achieve this.

8. What is a TN panel? Twisted Nematic 6 bit. Inexpensive, fast response time, generally good enough for most people and gamers, non-glare screens. Some drawbacks are not wide viewing angles and color for detailed graphic design.

9. What is a TFT monitor? A monitor that uses thin-film transistor (TFT). Vivid colors, inexpensive, most commonly used, glass screen. Glare off glass and dead pixels can be an issue on TFT screens as they are often developed during the manufacturing stage.

10. What is the difference between CCFL and LED backlit for LCD monitors?
Orignally CCFL backlighting was first and consists of a series of tubes laid horizontally behind the screen and the most common method of backlighting. LEDs is newer tech that offer increased brightness, allows for a thinner panel, produce less environmental pollution on disposal, more reliable, decreased 20%-30% power consumption as well as offers better colors including images with greater dynamic contrast,. LED's are a bit pricer in manufacturer cost.

Computex 2011: NVIDIA Announces Wired 3D Vision Glasses as of May 30, 2011 from AnandTech.com news.

This is a lighter set of glasses which don't require batteries at $99.

Side note from that new tidbit. Some manufacturers are building the IR transmitter directly into the monitor’s bezel coming up soon. Interesting. The glasses at that point wouldn't require the battery or to be hard wired.

"By ditching the batteries and the IR gear, and by integrating the functions of the 3D Vision hub into the USB connector itself, NVIDIA has been able to cut production costs. Priced at $99"

"Finally, in spite of the wired nature of the glasses, they may end up being more comfortable than the existing wireless glasses. NVIDIA isn’t heavily promoting it, but the wired glasses do have a different fit thanks to the fact that there’s no longer a need to embed batteries, IR receivers, or a controller into the glasses themselves."

Sorry about my wording regarding the batterries in the glasses.

the WIRED glasses never need batteries. The WIRELESS always need batteries, even if the emitter is built in to the monitor. it still needs power to activate the shutters in each lens.
