Question about WC?

Thread Starter
I am thinking about water cooling but have a few questions first. My Specs are
in my bio but im going to change out my Mobo, cpu and case. they are going to be asrock fatal1ty for mobo, haf-x case and i5 2500k. I will get another gtx 570 down the line. the kit i want is either a xspc rasa 240 or 360.

here are my questions?

1. can i add tap water or bottled water when ready to fill it up or does it take special water? (sorry for sounding like a n00b)

2. how long should you test your kit before actually applying it to your rig?

3. what are some extra tips you can give to make it an easy process to install? also to maintain the Wc properly?

4. do you need all that extra stuff liek coils, dead water biocidal drops, etc?

5. is there anything you recommend for my WC?

6. i will WC my sli gpu when i get the card or is it even necessary?

thank you all for you input.

it all depends from money

1 you need destilled water with killkoil or other additive or get some ready mixed water from some manufacturers for wc..

2 leak test 24 hours.. you need a dummy to connect to the psu so it can provide your pump outside your rig to leaktest..

3 a good plan! look at the builds of other people EXACTLY! make your own plan, then how the parts will be placed in your case. fall in love with a wc you like and build it like this for the first time, it will help you alot.

4 see point one

5 depends on your money, and how much work you are willing to invest, look at other peoples rigs

6 look at point five.. the cards should work good with air too but if you want to be silent and overclock them you need to wc wc em, but you dont have to.. your choice.

spend some time reading here and learn from other peoples experience.. then most questions will get answered by themselfes.. hope this helped

1.) Distilled water only most coolant are a waste of money. You use distilled to keep minerals out of the loop which can corode blocks.

2.) What you do is hook up your components but you don't plug in any of the components but the pump. You can keep RAM and hdds out as well. You run a full 24 Hr leak test if it passes then you fully hook up your system.

3.) Take your time. Do research there are tones of tutorials and guides here and else where. if you are still confused ask don't force something and break stuff.

4.) A kill coil is all you need.

5.) The rasa life are a great place to start. They have almost everything you need.

6. you can eaily wc your gpus but you will want at least the equivalent of a 480 rad.

As for colors dyes can gunk up ur blocks. Colored tubing is tthe easiest solution. Hope this helps.

I'm confident these gentlemen have answered your questions adequately. I just want to add that I don't necessarily recommend you get a kit just because you're new to watercooling. I was totally new to it a few weeks ago and this is my first loop (signature has a link to my thread with photos and list of stuff).

If you research and ask questions enough, you can get a great idea of what the best stuff is for your budget and build yourself a great custom loop. Don't take me wrong, some of these kits (XSPC RASA ones in particular) perform great, but nothing beats a good custom build. If you can be bothered to research and ask questions, you can save yourself the time and money of a kit and just go straight for a custom-build.

Have a look at my loop (signature link). The components I chose are pretty much top-end for cooling my CPU and graphics card. You can easily add a second graphics card in there without causing much of a thermal performance loss at all (I have a great radiator and a lot of case and radiator cooling). And please, feel free to ask questions!

1)Use distilled water. some people use coolants and dyes but i advise against it because eventually it will stain your equipment and could possible hinder performance.

2)Most people say 24 hrs but what ever you feel comfortable with it being leak free.

3)Make sure you get an idea how your loop is gonna look before you connect anything. draw a diagram or something to get you an idea.

4)Biocide is a nice addition to your loop so no growth can occur. add about 2 drops in your loop when everything is completely set up in your rig. anti kinks are nice if your bends are tight.

5)You probably dont need anything else. the rasa is a good kit to start wc.

6)If youre gonna do sli, i definitely recommended wc them both.
