Hey guys

My friend asked me to build a gaming system for him and because i havnt been playing around with PC stuff so im VERY behind of whats hot and whats not at the moment. But i did do some research recently and trying to pick out some stuff thats hot at the moment, so far im thinking of the i5 2500k on a Asus P8P67 and the rest i needed some recommandation. Oh and this $1000 DOES NOT include case and other things, JUST the stuff in the case.

thankz!

It's a bit hard to know, what would be the best options for your build without knowing if there will be some gaming included or if this build will be used for simple day to day internet tasks or some other stuff... Also it could help to know which game, if any, he would be playing and ultimately, the resolution at which he'd be playing as if he plan to game on 1440*900, there wouldn't be much use for a GTX580 as GPU.

So just tell us more about the future use of this computer and we would be able to help you quite a bit. I think a lot of people around here love to get "challenges" like that thrown at them.

Well at the moment he just wanted to game and maybe daily net surfing and other general things and im guessing in the future he will still be gaming with it. Games i have no idea what he ll play but i guess something like black ops's standard? I'll just go and ask him about extra info's like screen reso, etc.

get back to you guys soon

I'm not really familiar with sandy bridge yet so here you go, I tried to do something while staying around your 1000$ budget... I don't know what would be the price once you add taxes however. This is just an example and you could of course switch the 560 for something like a 6850 or 460GTX for reduced cost... the only two things missing are the optical drive (maybe this ? : http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=13068) and a cpu cooler (which you'll probably need if your friend plan to overclock since intel heatsinks are pretty mehhhh)

As I already said, this is a "base" build and you could customize it or "look for cheaper prices somewhere around the net" the only thing I recommend you is to not skimp on the PSU... buy a good quality unit from silverstone, corsair or seasonic. and unless you want to Xfire or SLI down the road, you could switch the PSU to this : http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=10870 for even more reduced costs.

So alternatively :

I hope this helped.

Problem is, those prices comes from newegg.ca and we have very nice prices here in canada. However, if the country on OP's profile is right, he's from australia so I don't think it would be a good thing to order from newegg due to shipping fees, IF he could order from newegg, which I doubt.

Really LOL

An Intel chip will absolutely destroy an AMD current chip in something like Starcraft II as well as some other games. The OP requested this on the Intel forums, I am sure if he wanted a budget AMD he would have asked on the AMD forums.
