i3-2100 or Phenom II X4 955?

Thread Starter
I'm going to be using my pc for video game design (programs like 3ds max, maya, CAD, Photoshop, etc.), as well as video games (crysis 1 & 2, battlefield 3, and more). Which cpu will be better, the i3-2100 or the phenom II X4 955? the rest of my build includes:

Mobo: ASRock 870 EXTREME3
Video: XFX HD-695X-ZNFC Radeon HD 6950 1GB (will crossfire in future)
Memory: PNY XLR8 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600
Case: Rosewill CHALLENGER
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB
PSU: Antec Truepower 750w

OR should I wait for the new AMD bulldozer processors and see what kind of price/performance they offer?

I don't plan on having everything bought until mid/late summer.

-Edit-

I know I will have to change my mobo if I choose the i3-2100.

If you dont need it real soon, just wait for bulldozer. If you need one now, AMD 955 is the way to go I believe as it have 2 extra cores.

There cant be this much about bulldozer without some fire.

The Phenom 2 X4 is pretty even with the i3 at stock, but the Phenom can be overclocked, if that is a positive for you. Extra cores when doing CAD and photoshop are nice.

Your videocard is pretty expensive, for the amount of money you're spending on that (which won't be utilized really at all for the programs you mentioned) you could go to a i7-950 and a X58 mobo paired with a GTS450 and see much better performance in the applications you mentioned.

go mwitht he 955 and a lower end board the go with a am3+ board when comes out as the 955 will fit in it... as for i3 and p2x4 they both overclock very well( on aftermarket fans). and the i3 might bottleneck that gpu....

Nah the i3 doesn't overclock at all.Intel doesn't add that feature anymore unless they have a"k",otherwise completely locked!I hate intel for this.Gone are the days when you could overclock a cheap cpu and get better performance.

That would be a bit over budget for me, I'm trying to stay below $150.
