Q6600 OC not game stable

Thread Starter
I've been trying to overclock my cpu since 2 weeks now. But I'm just not able to get it game stable at around 3.2Ghz.

As it is now, it's prime stable 4hrs and it also made 100 passes of IntelBurnTest. No BSOD, freeze or crash. But when I'm playing a game(L4D2, BFBC2) for about 15 minutes I get a crash to desktop; no problems in windows after crash to desktop.
I've tried vcore from 1.40V up to 1.475V in 0.0125 steps, with no success.
I also did the pencil mod since I had a big voltage droop under load. Worked perfectly, no vdroop anymore. Bios vcore is still ~0.08V above cpu-z vcore.
Temps are idle ~44°C, (prime)load <72°C depending on vcore.

When I set multi to 6x and vcore to auto - which results in ~2.4Ghz - and don't change ANY other setting, I'm experiencing no crashes in games (played L4D2 for 3hours).

I'm thankful for any suggestions; and sorry for my English, it's not my mother tongue.

Hope dies last.

Get Memtest and test your RAM. Sure its not a driver issue? Did you OC your GPU at all? What game?

eehm.. can you run prime95 on small fft and blend pls? and maybe it is better to change the ram divider to another relation.. maybe the final big fsb is too big for that board or ram?

I did prime small fft for 4hrs with no problem. Doing blend now.
I'm pretty sure it's not a driver issue because with multi 6x and same settings it runs smoothly. Played 3 hours Left4Dead2 with no problems. At 9x multi it won't even run 20mins. Also the board and RAM should handle the clock, since when I keep the FSB and RAM settings and only change multi to 6 and up the vcore I'm experiencing no problems at all.
GPU is OC by default, it's a OC version.

Thanks for your suggestions so far. I will test my RAM with memtest later as well as the synced RAM divider(1:1) setting in BIOS.

yea now lets see what the blend test says.. if for 4 hours stable again then i guess it is due the gpu somehow, or maybe even something with mobo settings but idk..
i guess its the ram :/ but lets see..

Tried prime blend test and it crashed after about 20mins.
So I set RAM divider to 1:1, changed some voltages of the mobo and set the multi to 8x (~2.77Ghz) and vcore to 1.425V.
Bled test is now running for 1h. Thx for the tip with prime blend and the RAM.

Yeah RAM is probably what's bothering you there..

Prime 95 Small FFT doesnt test RAM or FSB but only CPU..

Use memtest Windows ver. 4.0 and run four instances of it with 825MB of dedicated RAM for each..

Test untill every instance reaches at least 100%..

If you get error then it's your RAM acting up there..

CHEERS..

Back off the VTT. You really shouldn't need more than 1.25. Change your RAM multiple to 1:1. SB core should be stock or maybe one notch above.

I think I found a stable clock(for now). Played L4D2 for about an hour and did some prime and IBT.

I'm now at 3.11Ghz, FSB 1555, multi 8x, RAM running 1:1(777mhz) and 5-5-5-15-2T.
Voltages:
Vcore 1.45625V
Mem 2.1V
HT 1.35V
NB 1.40V
SB 1.55V
VTT 1.45V
Temps are <75°C with prime. In games I never reach 70°C. Also i will try to lower my vcore and vtt voltage in order to get better temps. Does this look ok right now?

I'll report back next week after some testing, since I'm busy right now.
Thx to you all so far; I'm really confident that I can do the 3.2Ghz.

oh my 3.1ghz with 1.456v...dude look @ my volts and its a 1.325vid chip
BTW whats ur stepping...B3? if its B3 then there's nothing to do abt it
the best way is set everything to AUTO...DRAM set to 1.5v..and do some RAM tweakings and don't mess with the timings...and after each boot enter into BIOS and then PC health status and see how much volts auto settings is giving to ur vcore......
