i7 990x Extreme / Overclocking newbie

Thread Starter
Hello,

I would like to thanks first the community for giving such useful ressources for newcomers like me in the world of overclocking.

I recently buyed a new rig (the first I mounted myself), and I'm really interested in overclocking it. It have been in my mind for a long time, but my previous computers were all brands PCs, so no possibilities to do it.

So this time, I'll give it a shot and that's why I'm here to ask your help.

So basically, my configuration is an Intel i7 990x Extreme processor (cooled by a Corsair H50), an Asus Rampage III Extreme, 12GB of DDR3 1333 Mhz Ram (Samsung Original) and a 1200w PSU.

I have been very impressed by the results Sin0822 and others had.

So, as I'm totally new to overclocking, can someone give me a guide or a detailed step-to-step list of how i can overclock my i7 990x?

Truth is I have read some guides posted here, but I'm a little scared of doing it by my own, as the Bios can be very scary for a beginner. biggrin.gif
And with the talented overclockers over there, I really hope someone can share with me his successful settings.
I guess 4.0 Ghz/4.2 Ghz would be a good option with my current cooling system but I really don't know where to start.

Sorry for my bad english and for making a new "newbie thread".

Best regards,

Hanshin

What does your vCore look like @ stock? I recommend you disable HT and running your vCore at 1.25v to start and your multiplier at 30 with 133 blck. Without seeing your BIOs template, we wouldn't be able to help you much until you show us more bios based settings.

You should read these two OC guides so you have an idea of what you are doing and why you are doing it.

http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?...Language=en-us

http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/overc...beginners.html

Even though the above two guides are for a P6T Deluxe v2 the BIOS is similar to your Rampage III Extreme. Below is my 4.44GHz OC settings for my 980X/R3E setup.

You will need to change the below ram timings to agree with the timings for the ram that you have installed.

To get yours stable you may need to adjust some of the below voltages up or down.
