[GURU3D] MSI announces full compatibility with future AM3+ processors [Upadated 4/8] - Page 2

I highly doubt that april fools has anything to do with it. Asus already announced support with a bios update for their boards and that was long before april came around. You could be right though, I just think it would be a lame joke.

Either way it still makes no since. I have a CIVF, and while at first I thought "oh cool", simple fact is my socket doesn't have the extra pin hole that AM3+ chips need.

I for one, don't feel like disassembling my system to find out either. Not that it much matters, I don't trust this board to try & oc a BD as it already has a high rate of failure with a Thuban. Nor lose any potential features Zambezi may bring to the table.

I wouldn't go blaming JF-AMD for anything. He is in marketing, & his job is to tell people whatever the corporate line is. If the motherboard manufacturers have found a way to make BD compatible with current boards, that has nothing to do with AMD or JF-AMD. None of that reflects on him personally.

But yeah, it sounds like an April Fools joke.

Go see for your self

there is a easy way to tell. one of the 4 little notches is only 1pin on the AM3+
on the AM3 they are all 2pins...

this makes me wonder if AMD made a special AM3 compatible version of the BD. I doubt it!

Don't see why not, and would make sense if there are not enough pin holes on existing AM3 boards. They had AM2 Phenom II's, so it's not unreasonable. Perheps AMD is a little mad because they haven't announced anything like that yet and were waiting.

Who says that every processor will have a pin there? Until then believe at least partial product line compatibility. The companies would not look like idiots on purpose.

Did you look at the picture? well i guess you could snip off that pin if you wanted to and it would fit.

ASUS did this already... come on people not this AGAIN!

I have a feeling that MSI was trying to say that those boards will be revised to fit AM3+

Possibly a retractable pin? It would still have to gimp something a little but thats the only way I can see it working.

Is that even possible?
EDIT: it has been said that it is for power saving stuff but I don't think anyone can confirm that so no one really knows.

none have the extra pin hole!
Yeah, but see, the umm, the Bios update makes that piece pop out like toast out of a toaster. Then the BD chip will fit right in.
