Difference between 1155 and 1156 socket

could anyone give me a good explanation between 1155 and 1156 socket types?
only ever delt with socket 775 and below

Socket 1155 is the newest Architecture.
It's much faster than 1156 and can overclock better as well.

For the price difference, there's no reason to buy 1156 anymore.
Socket 1155 has the highest performance for the price.

The 1156 is older and now being phased out, it was used with the first generation core processors. 1155 is used on the current sandybridge processors like the i5 2500k, it will be intel's mid range socket for the next couple of design cycles.

The difference is....one pin!

Also, the mounting mechanism for coolers is the same, so anything with a 1156 backplate will work for a 1155 socket.
